What are your thoughts on these passages?

1. Socrates: ‘If we leave this place (Prison) without first persuading the state to let us go, are we or are we not doing an injury, and doing it to those we’ve least excuse for injuring?'

2. Mill: ‘If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.’

3. More: ‘What do you suppose would happen if I started telling a king to make sensible laws, or trying to expel the deadly germs of bad ones from his mind? I’d be promptly thrown out, or merely treated as a figure of fun.’

4.‘…let us imagine some newborn individuals, neither acquainted with slavery nor desirous of liberty, ignorant indeed of the very words. If they were permitted to choose between being slaves and free men, to which would they give their vote? There can be no doubt that they would much prefer to be guided by reason itself than to be ordered about by the whims of a single man.’

These are all my opinions and you probably shouldn't use them, because the teacher would know something odd is going on...

1: There's no harm--the state goes by it's own fundamentals, so who is there to say whom is correct?

2: If one man had the power, he would be justified in silencing mankind. Hitler is the perfect example. When one man with strong opinions becomes dominant, the power is often abused to the point of tyranny, since he knows he's at the head of the food chain.

3: It depends on the king's character. If he has a tough outer shell, there's no doubt that one would be expelled. However, if the king is more light-hearted, a suggestion would probably call for mockery and jest.

4: As someone completely ignorant to the concepts of slavery and freedom, one's first thought would be "who wouldn't want to be free?" But a newborn may also long for guidance and a companion, misunderstanding the concept of slavery as caretaking.

Thank you. Pretty insightful. Yeah thats pretty much what I'm going to be writing about. I have to write 3 pages on each one.

Oh and spicy is my little milk dud. At least thats what he told me at my last party.

On that subject, Jake, stay at my place next time fool. My house is always open to you hah.

3 pages on each? HAHAHA. Ahhh, I almost miss English class. Have fun. I don't think I could write 3 pages each on such boring subjects. Forgive me, Socrates.
