first off, good thread Pete and I've never really thought of it but now that you have pointed it out I've realised how much of an issue it actually is.
Now this is where I think the Aussies (Pil and Coedie) have the upper hand.
I believe there are 2 reasons for consistancy in comps:
1. The more comps you enter, the more you get used to them. If it is your first comp than you'll probably won't place well because the amount of nerves and the pressure is enormous. Dibble made a good point of just try to forget about it, but it is hard when there are hundreds of onlookers analysing each trick you do. I myself have only entered one comp and I was terrified but luckily I wasn't too bad. But Pil and Coedie usually perform quite well because there are so many comps in Sydney alone that they've learnt to deal with the nerves better. I'm not saying that they don't have any nerves at all, it doesn't matter if you've been in 100 comps you'll always have nerves, but you can learn not to effect your consistancy of tricks,
2. It's been pointed out many times in this thread and it is 100% true. Consistancy. This is what separates the Men from the Boys. The best place to determine consistancy in riders is comps, if a rider like Jesse, Brandon, Coedie etc perform well in comps, and often perform well in every comp they enter, and they usually place in the comps they enter, it means that they have a level of consistancy that other riders don't have.
Now for the razor issue, I dont want it to get ugly but I agree with Bri.
