People always ask that and I'm never sure. I know more which bikes suck than which bikes are good. I know there are some on Bikesdirect that are pretty solid. From what I hear the Mercier Kilo TT is solid and it's not too much.
I'd say get a new bike. Conversions are a hassle, the dropouts are always an issue, and chances are the frame is heavy and has bad geometry.Aye Homies, I need a bike for the commute to uni.
I have an old rusty racer that needs new tires, paint, fixed conversion, all bearings, brake seat and other things, it will probably cost $200 to 'fix' up.
Do you guys recommend I do this or just buy a new one for cheap? What should I consider if I do restore?
i got the state hahaha. its actualy really nice iver had it for 1 and a half months, the welds arent too bad, the only problem ive had was the lockring on the hub coming loose so ive had to put threadlock on it. i wasnt a big fan of the seat or grips, so i replaced those, but everything else is really good. it gets me places fast and its reliable. its a good bike yo
