I feel like all fixie freestyle kids use plastic Odyssey pedals. If you have any old bmx pedals just throw those on.

I lot of people like Holdfasts a lot. I'm riding them on my commuter and they're good. I'm partial to clipless though just because you can go so much faster.

Want to get a good, solid, relatively inexpensive complete for commuting, freestyle, and like actual riding (like road biking). What should I look at?

People always ask that and I'm never sure. I know more which bikes suck than which bikes are good. I know there are some on Bikesdirect that are pretty solid. From what I hear the Mercier Kilo TT is solid and it's not too much.

Aye Homies, I need a bike for the commute to uni.
I have an old rusty racer that needs new tires, paint, fixed conversion, all bearings, brake seat and other things, it will probably cost $200 to 'fix' up.
Do you guys recommend I do this or just buy a new one for cheap? What should I consider if I do restore?

deffo restore its so fun, just make sure they frame has no hidden cracks or really bad rust damage, you can get really cheap wheel sets off ebay so thats fixed conversion, bearings and brake covered, then youll just need seat, grips and foot retention, but you can still do it relatively cheap and it will look sick and theres a certain rewarding feeling locking at this bike that you converted, do it!!

aight, this is what I got to work with, it's fairly rusted, how should I remove it? and im gonna clear coat and leave raw, how should I go about that? any thoughts or input on how to transform this into a beast would be super helpful. :)

get some handpaper on that shit! might take a while and be alot of effort but yeah do it, then clear coat it to ----- is that back wheel geared? or single speed? also strip it all down, cranks off and forks and bars and stem, clean it all up and get the frame and forks in good condition, not sure what the headset is but id probably put a new one in, stem looks fine and same with bars :)

id love to have a frame and fork like that its my favourite style

EDIT on second thoughts that stem looks rusted in an area of high stress, i dunno if id trust it, also looks rusted on to the lock nut on the fork tube, gonna need fuck loads of force to get that off hahaha

I'd say get a new bike. Conversions are a hassle, the dropouts are always an issue, and chances are the frame is heavy and has bad geometry.

i got the state hahaha. its actualy really nice iver had it for 1 and a half months, the welds arent too bad, the only problem ive had was the lockring on the hub coming loose so ive had to put threadlock on it. i wasnt a big fan of the seat or grips, so i replaced those, but everything else is really good. it gets me places fast and its reliable. its a good bike yo
