Yeah, i suppose so.Well, that's part of it. A lot of it is because plastic cores are injection molded, allowing them to create underdrafts and other intereference fits for a stronger bond.
it's not an awful idea, you just need to screw in the plastic core rather than bonding with adhesive. but if you're casting the plastic wheel, you might as well cast the whole wheel, no?
