Tips on improving my editing?

I'm using the free trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 12, and I realize I have a lot to learn. I'm about to invest in a new camera, so I basically want to practice editing as much as I can. I'm out with a broken elbow anyway right now, so I have the time.

This is just about the editing - not all the filming is me, and obviously not the riding.

what bothers me the most is definitely the filming. unfocused clips is not good. and also super shaky clips or clips that cut heads off. get a tripod and stay away from the camera when filming. for the editing, a very easy step is to make the clips fit with the music. like when someone lands, it should fit with the music. try to stay away from film burn effects also, but i know some people like it, so that might just be me. good luck

what was stated above. but you really need to focus on getting comfortable using your camera. post production is all about developing your own style. that will get people to dig your videos. just make videos the way you like watch them, and you will be good. just get comfortable with you camera and learn how to adjust your settings and use manual focus, but make sure you focus your shot before you film.

Alright, thanks. This is on a digital camera with no manual focus though, that's why I'm going to invest in a reasonable camcorder - which should I get? Ideally under about 350 with a fisheye? I can get go pro's really cheap through my sponsor but some people say they're crap.

i personally hate go pro cameras. it works as a helmet cam, but not for filming other stuff IMO. the sony cx-cams are pretty good
