we used some old dump 125 fork, had to bend it bad

I was surprised to find trolley poles in my town, there were 2 and we got both of them, except one of them was REALLY thick and REALLY rusty so we couldn't use it.

hacksaw or jump on the pole till it comes out
hacksaw is the easier option
