This would be in the "Buy" section.

VX1000 tips:
Pointless to have a VX1K and no MK1
Firewire to USB doesnt work well
Never mix tape brands, use sony preimums in VX1Ks
Dont put the color level all the way up
capture off a shitty 1 chip mini dv camera
ONLY GET REPAIRS FROM VIDEO ELETRONICS
Watch out for lens hits, the whole front section isn't made anymore and you'd be screwed if it got knocked off
Keep audio on auto for skateboarding, scootering, or biking, sony designed the auto on that camera so well
Use the bayo only.

Firewire 400 transfers at an extremely high rate of speed, while USB 2.0 and even USB 3.0 can't compare. You need a firewire card, they cost like 20 bucks and go into a PCI-express slot on your computer.

VX1Ks are very old and have a ton of use on their heads, after a while these heads get worn down. If you capture off the VX1K thats 2x the amount of time on the heads. So get a cheap mini dv cam that you can use to capture.

Rewinding and fast forwarding and playbacking on the VX1K is terrible aswell, and you should really get that cheap mini dv camera to watch the clips on.

Lcd Screens are stupid. theres really no need for it... If your filming a line and
somehow run over a big crack or rock, well your fucked.
And use a capture cam. Like buy a used sony dcr- hc48 or somethinbg

I agree with u but my viewfinder doesn't work Sooo.... I either do that it try and fix it and I afraid to tear my camera apart

every computer has a way to compat with firewire, and that "front part" is the vap unit. strip your threads or it gets broken/knocked off, you will be fucked. as mikey said dont take it anywhere but v.e, the dude there is so chill and will hook it up. when he says capturing he means upload footage, instead of uploading off your vx, you put the tape is the other less expensive mini dv cam , therefore saving your heads. trust me you must babie your heads, dont play back on your vx either. i had to replace mine. muy epxpensive. check skateperception man, make an account. people will help you out on there way more than people on here. vx's are not most scooter riders expertise.

Thanks so much Keenan. Also do u think I should get a screen attachment? And what is the best way to playback vids, just use the other cam?

just from reading this thread i can tell you have no idea what you're getting yourself into. vx1000s are 17 year old cams, they take a lot of money to keep going and it's really not worth it. you're going to be having problems and needing repairs pretty often.

if i were you id sell it asap because people are paying less and less for them by the day, then get yourself a good cam made sometime this century. preferably an sd card or internal flash memory cam because mini dv is dying.

I hear you but I know what I'm doing for the most part I just wanted to hear to alternate opinions. Especially If I should get my viewfinder fixed or get a screen

no one uses these things anymore dude, you're wasting your time and money on something that's been obsolete for the passed 10 years. whatever floats your boat i guess.
