WATCH OUT FOR APRIL FOOLS

This makes me chuckle. Why would a virus specifically be set to strike on a specific date anymore? 1) When a virus is found it is reversed and fixed, then various whitepapers are written and fixes are distributed. 2) Most viruses are spam-based now because nobody cares enough to do something to piss people off they just want ad-money. So why give people enough time to search out a virus? and why allow people to know you've infected a pc with a virus (Bragging 10m pc's captured)?

Anyway The virus is dubbed "Conficker" Split that into two words and urban dictionary it:
"Con": the act of ripping off somebody.
"ficker": A person who is dumb

Anyway, if i wer wrong i'd laugh my arse off because no-ones done something like that since the love bug. (well nothing as successful). The whole thing traces back to synmantec and goes no further, they've released various "tools" and i'm sure someones reversed them by now to work it out for themselves but i'd guess that the tools install some "conficker"... if you get what i mean? =] 10m, where does that figure come from anyway?, i'd bet that synmantec's tool download statistics are close to 10m? =P

And this whole thing about macs being virusproof is not true, though it's close. Mac OSes are based on unix, the general kernel is coded to avoid viruses etc. And the reason think they're virus proof is because the majority of the world use windows and the majority of the world are useless enough to not bother ridding of malware once it has infected their pc. So it's the obvious market to write viruses for.

That's my little rant over, i love people doing this dumb shizz. Can't wait till later for the big "reveal".

Macs aren't virus proof, DUH. Hackers don't waste their time making viruses for an already crap computer. and a much smaller user base.

2. Are there any real Mac viruses out there?
Some try to answer this question literally, based on the strict definition of 'virus' - i.e. malicious software that infects other files. But the term 'virus' is used much more loosely these days and in that context refers to malicious software in general (or what the industry terms 'malware'). The answer also depends on the version of the Mac operating system (OS) in question. While Windows tends to be essentially the same "under the hood", the various flavors of the Macintosh OS vary widely. Thus the answer to the question is Yes, there are real Mac viruses out there. But whether you are vulnerable or not depends on the OS. As for malware in general, it's an even stronger Yes.

after shutting them nothing else happened.
???

Brian Boston

I got myself banned.
Go buy an over priced apple PC with a different "arty rich person" OS if you are scared of getting a virus. Windows will always sell better than Mac. Fuckk fanboys.

Everyone needs to not freak out about this virus junk, you probably don't have it if you have virus protection. Theres worms released every single day, why is this one such a big deal? Because its gonna activate on a date? Who gives a fuckk. EVERYONE should have virus protection running at all time, EVEN IF YOUR ON A MAC.

That is so cool that they did that i mean you have to give them props but i mean who wants their computer fucked right? Also i agree go WINDOWS!!!!%-6

macs fucking own.
so easy to use

No, Unix fucking owns, windows sucks the devils cock and macs lick window's arse while hiding Unix behind them and oversimplifying everything other than finding non-commercial programs for use on their shitty OS.

It took half a brancell to work out the whole april fools thing. so i like the rant about having antivir from brian boston =P.

Anyone who actually agrees when someone says "go windows" is a fucking dumbass. Especially since vista.

Much love all but this thread is so stupid it should have a "must be able to kick self in forehead" warning on the ].

if u want to protect yourself against it, all u need is a decent antivirus (i personally recommend avast) and if your using windows there offering a special free patch on the Microsoft website and always USE STRONG PASSWORDS! using 3 to 6 word/number passwords are very easy for the virus to crack, but this day is way to blown into porportion
