What is the difference between Decks with Deck Plates and Decks Without?

What do they do anyway, I wanna trade decks with my friend, but they deck he's trading me doesn't have the middle strip.

The Grey 1 is a b-model and the shiny 1 is a new pro
The pro would be better with that plate inside
but the old 07' pro's would beat them all

the "plate" is half as thin now so they brake faster.
and the forks are thinner but no one realy uses those.
