if its your first cam try a gs 320 panasonic or someting like that (dont quote me on that im half drunkish)

Im gonna break it down for you...

If you know what aperture, shutter speed, focus, exposure and shit means, get a VX2100 or GL2.

If 24p, 30p, 60i,cinelike, mean anything to you, get a DVX100B (or A)

If you don't understand a word i just said, get a camera in the Panasonic GS series.

You can get really good colors with both if you know how to set everything up. Its pretty much the person behind the camera that gets the best colors.

the panasonic pv gs 320 is the cam i have andy
and it gets good colors, has decent manual settings, and you saw the quality when we were filming at og last time

and then get a baby death :D

for all auto modes, gl color suck
dvx's are better, but if you take the time and patience to mess around with a digital slr (so you don't wear down the heads on your camera) then you can figure out what white balance, iso, shutter, and aperture you need to use on either camera, and they will both look real good.
just be sure to use a capture cam like a real cheap wal-mart cam to upload to your computer so you don't mess up the heads and don't play back any tapes on an expensive camera. make the heads last loong

You won't wear your heads down learning stuff as long as your not recording, most of that wearing down heads stuff is BS now though unless if you use a VX1000. People on dvxuser.com are at like 350,000 hours plus with no repairs. I still use a cap cam since my JVC is faster than my DVX when it comes to rewinding and stuff though.

dvxuser.com is the shit, i checked it out when i foudn it on google when you got your cam and its sick. def get the same kind bri has (dvx-100b dont get the a, b is way better) you dont know how bad i want your cam. but its too big for me, id rather have a small hd 3 chip cam.

but i thought that the only way you saw what the shutter, white balance, etc... was when watching the playback...

haha no, you set shutter, aperture, white balance, gain, and all that other stuff before you record. and you can see the difference as you change them, no need to record.
