Haha, you're not the only one. Even though my dad is pretty helpful even if i haven't ask for his help, then my dad has mentioned a couple of times that i should grow up from scooters now and we've argued about it. Only that he hasn't touched any of my stuff, although he once asked me to throw away old broken useless decks. He just doesn't seem to understand what's really behind the scene and he's never seen my riding and having fun. Main thing is, those who don't know about the scene and the lifestyle of riding something aggressive, won't ever know that the sky is the limit and there's too much to grow everywhere and to find friends, contacts, experience, maybe even a job.
I wouldn't like to trash my life watching TV and eating myself fat. His hobby is modding american muscle cars. I'd say driving cars is even more dangerous than riding scooters, because car accidents may end with deaths. Scootering isn't that dangerous unless you're doing flips and snap your neck.
So that's why i'm still keeping myself in the scene no matter what my dad says. It's my life, it's my hobby, it's my wish to do it - mind his own business, because i'm not a fucking doll to play with.
edit: when my dad would throw away my stuff, i would ask if he'd like if i trash his collection of postmarks too.
And if he will ever want me to quit literally scooters, then that would be an excuse to start riding BMXes - that way i wouldn't loose my friends.
