Why do you need to lock your folding mech to use a threadless fork?

i think you need to lock it becuase if you take off the thing in front of the foldy then its pretty free to move and so if you dont lock it and the gold little bolt goes up then your going to fall forward. But thats just my guess

i think you have to lock it because how the unlocked mech moves back and forth, you might hit the forks on your headtube, and i dont think you can take the plates out without bolting it cuz it will like fall apart

You dont have to lock it, but u have to grind down the plate that holds the headtube from falling foward, or lock it and take the plate off.

wat happened with my old scooter i didn't lock it and i messed up the foldy so it bent
