do all three piece cranks need a 9/16" pedal?
and do all one piece cranks need a 1/2" pedal?
and what is the difference between sealed and unsealed pedals?

yes all 3 piece cranks use 9/16" some crap or oldschool 3 piece cranks mght use 1/2"
no idea why they use 1/2" mght be because the arms on them ar smaller diameter then those on 3 piece cranks
sealed last longer and are noticably smoother

alright thanks. and when a pedal is 1/2" or 9/16", does that mean the thread size? or the width of this piece?:

its the size of the axle the part with thread on it just like a scooter axle is 8mm or whatever so yh i guess its the width

ok. because i have pedals that i am guessing are 1/2". but the axle piece does not fit in my crank. so should a 9/16" fit?

^ I would assume so since you tried one size and it does not fit and their is only one other size. Logic is your friend.

cool thanks. now, is 1/2 and 9/16 the ONLY sizes pedals come in?
There are actually some French cranks/pedals that come in a different size, but I doubt you're gonna find or be using those.
