this was my vertx wheel after i think 3 months. my back wheel was pretty much the same, but without the crack. i could peel off that chunk of pu if i felt like it. i bought them last june. i found these wheels really hard and they had a sort of "chalky" feel to them. they flatspotted easily and wore down really fast. after three months they went from 110 to about 98. i contacted vertx about it, and they said they might change the pu.
I have a pair of VertX wheels and they're lasting fine after 5 months of riding. The back wheel has little chunk though and like a line of wear from riding over rocks and stuff. Really cheap and good wheels, and the batch I got were actually really fast.

I don't go very big anymore, I've started riding more ledges, rails and even like minis, I really only hit up 4 or so sets
