ANYONE WHO HAS HAD POOR HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCES/ SEES THE BULLSHIT GOING ON IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SHOULD REALLY GIVE MY RANT A READ, YOU MIGHT APPRECIATE IT AND AGREE WITH A LOT OF STUFF I'M SAYING/HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES.
My highschool rant:
Got suspended in 10th grade because I was around kids smoking weed. They got 10 days, I got 5. Because of this, I couldn't do school to work in 12th grade which I would have benefited greatly from because senior year was fucking retarded.
We have a career and technology center bordering our highschool and I'm a hands on kind of guy. I could never fit it in my schedule because I was always involved with music (played trombone) but when I finally could, they wouldn't let me in because they "don't like to accept seniors."
As a result of both of these things I had to take a bunch of irrelevant classes I didn't need to graduate and school quickly began to feel like daycare. I went from an "overqualified" student who was getting high b's and a's to a kid just slipping through the cracks. I say "overqualified" because I always had a "gifted IEP" but wanted to stay as far away as possible from 90 percent of the honors kids since they were a bunch of robotic selfish fuckheads. I also never took much of a "liking" to school. Because of this, I was a "waste of potential."
At the end of senior year, me and a few buddies got caught smoking trees in a parking lot the day of prom (seniors had that day off) and we were badgered by the police, only to be let go after they thought it'd be cute to notify the school. The day before this, I found a wallet in the school parking lot . I opened it up to see who to return it to only to find out it was my worst enemy's wallet (evil ass motherfucker/compulsive liar/sociopath who got pleasure in fucking me, my friends, and whoever else he could whenever he could when we all we wanted was to have nothing to do with him) so I kept it. The school caught wind of me having it (friends tell friends tell friends tell friends) and had all the principals gang up on me the night of prom (still got to go, just had to look like a piece of shit) to make sure "I had no drugs" and after searching me hit me with "you have such and such's wallet, all we want is to have it back." It caught me off guard and after realizing what they said, it was too late and I forgot to deny it. Oh wait, I forgot to mention that this fuckhead was an honors kid. The "simply getting it back" turned into suspending me for 10 days since it happened on school property (it'd literally only been a couple fucking days) and made wrapping the year up incredibly awkward. I had a hearing where the principal wouldn't let my mother talk, said he was going to read my name in the paper because I would end up in prison, and cut the meeting short. Meanwhile, the shit that was supposed to be "confidential" was gossiped all throughout the teacher's staff just like what happened in 10th grade. One of our school counselor's called down my girlfriend of 3 years and encouraged her to break up with me so I wouldn't "drag her down" because "she was still top 10" and to stay away from me, since I was such bad news and all. I didn't get to walk for graduation.
-If they actually value their students like they act like they do (but only oh so selectively) why the fuck didn't they try to change me at all?
-If they thought I was a piece of shit, why didn't they try to better me because they obviously cared about my girlfriend.
-What happened to equal opportunity? Instead of trying to help me the school literally just threw me in the fire and made the next 3 years harder for me. How the fuck is that sort of bias professional?
Pepper in that it took 4 years of hearing stories from some buddies about multiple principal office visits to learn that honors kids get special treatment left and right. These same kids get built up their entire life and literally receive rewards for being "good people" yet some of these kids are literally the most selfish and disgusting people I have ever met (no bias or exaggeration, just in spending ample time with them.)
Oh, forgot to add how individually unprofessional some of these teachers are. My 10th grade broadcasting teacher (we had our own local school news) would literally gossip about students to other students and let disgusting things go on in his classroom. He picked his next years class of representatives solely based on popularity way before anyone even had a chance to prove themselves and show their creativity at making edits/anchoring the show. It ended up being horribly unoriginal and under-qualified for what they were representing. It soon became a cult following to hate that class.
FINALLY, combine that highschool did literally nothing to prepare me for the real world and taught me nothing that I could use in daily situations. (Taxes, bills, job impressions, etc.) but I know that's not a "my" school thing and more of an all school thing.
Basically, the experience was unfair and retarded as fuck and graduating was one of the best things that happened to me. These people who run the school are just "adults" living a second child hood operating out of preconceived notions and word of mouth and receiving a less than deserving paycheck for it. They don't try to better students as human beings or prepare them for the world, just shove them through the system and make sure the designated "stars" stay stars. Fuck my highschool. Really made me lose faith in schooling.
