This is what i've been doing since i snapped my last long-tube reinforced fork and ovalized my micro's headtube. I was pretty desparate to get some parts so i could ride on monday in Simpel Sessions park.
I wish to thank Andrew for giving me tips how to make a new fork out of old forks.
I'm not going to risk to ovalize my Micro's headtube worse, so until i get a deep-stacked headset i won't use my micro. So Egon gave me his first scooter which i basicly changed almost every part on it.
I've always wanted to show this deck to everyone, because it's the most leetage. Nameless, at least we don't know the name of the scooter. The deck is made out of aluminium, except foldy and dropouts are steel. Two years ago, egon was probably the first one to use locked foldys and reinforcemets. (yep, he started using bolted meches even before me). That time Egon put down a really heavy steel pipe and also reinforced the dropouts too. Personally i think dropout reinforcements what he's made is a bit skecthy at the point when it connects the dropouts and the deck, but this deck has survived RAD crew style throws and a lot of drops. And it's pretty heavy too. I was pretty suprised how Egon even whipped that last summer. He also painted the whole deck gray (not like it was gray before, but i think it was because of the rusty reinforcements) and also painted the grip to gray w/ yellow stripes.
The fork is the very same which i snapped last time. This time i went to a diffirent workshop where they work with steel. Basicly i took Andrew's advice and let them cut down the fork at the part where the threads start. Next thing was to cut out a part from an old GT bmx fork which i especially bought for occations like this already 5 months ago, it's just i still used old threaded forks at the time. So they cut me out a piece of that old threadless GT fork too and grind a tappered tip on the piece so it could be easily welded on the fork. They welded and grind down the stiches and it's done. The welding part is between the upper and lower headsets, so according to Andrew's opinion it wouldn't have any pressure since forks will break either above the upper headset or below the lower headset.
Fork is ~18cm long, and 3.25mm (.128") thick, longer and thicker than SR fork. Still my fork itself is bent and it's probably gonna bend more so SR forks will be still ordered like we've planned.
I managed to put on my old-A's headtube which had my old sealed FSA installed on, that saved some time to switch headsets from threaded to threadless on Egon's headtube. I also managed to put on a new-a brake, which i love the most, because it's made of steel and is very durable. The foldy doesn't look solid from away, i thought that too when i first looked at that scooter, but it's not aluminium, it's steel, and for my suprise, it's solid also. I mean it. Solid.
