The Drinking Age

So just recently I received my first underage, a $263.50 fine in Portage county Wisconsin. (How I got the fine is a story all on its own but that is for a different place/time)

What I really wanted to make this thread about is the drinking age in the U.S. In my honest opinion making people wait until the age of 21 to drink is complete bullshit. People can go off to war and die for this country but never be allowed to have a sip of alcohol. Now I'm in no way trying to say that there should not be restrictions on alcohol consumption.

What I personally think would be the best way for the United States to handle this problem is to allow anyone who gradates highschool and is over the age of 19 to drink alcohol. This I believe works best for everyone because it allows people who are of an acceptable age to drink and it also keeps all alcohol out of highschools(which is one thing I completely agree with).

Discuss, talk ----- tear me apart, whatever just getting my ideas out there.

What if you drop out of high school? Lol. My dad is 65 and he wouldn't be able to drink alcohol right now if that was the case.

Lets see: when the legal age was 18 (our parents generation), they ended up alright and productive. The whole reason for the age being 21 is utter bull----- there is not logic behind the legislation. It doesn't improve society.

Another dumb law put into place by out of touch, misinformed, "caring" politicians.

Canada = 19 and it's perfect. By 19 you're out of highschool for the most part and if not then you're still old enough to know whats up.

But countries with drinking ages like 16 get along fine as well.

Uk - 18 to buy it, but you can drink in a private place from the age of 5 and in a pub with food from the age of 15.
Works perfectly well :)

I don't really think there should be a drinking age at all. No matter what you do, 14 year olds are still going to go get shitfaced on the weekend. Personally I can't stand drinking, but any drinking age is going to fail. It's not going to stop kids from drinking.

Just a personal opinion of mine, most people lacking a high school diploma (from what I have witnessed) should not be drinking alcohol in the first place.

Obviously this does not apply for everyone just an opinion that is all.

other countries get along fine because.. well other countries arent america. the people living in countries that dgaf, like say spain for instance, are so much more mature. i noticed they only drank as a social thing and they knew how to stop themselves if they get too tipsy, in america kids will get themselves drunk as fuck and end up doing something they will regret. i know this because it already happens. every day.

a lot of the kids on this site are more mature than the general population, but american teenagers in general are too stupid and irresponsible to be allowed to drink.

i would say i wouldnt mind alcohol being illegal if i didnt already know what would happen.
