Politics are ridiculous now, I follow it..but not how I used to. I can't watch the news, I'm sick 5 months of debate over a healthcare bill where only 3-4 people in the entire Congress are really sticking up for what they know is right, not what their party thinks is right and not what their donors think is right.
I'm sick of people bashing Obama for "deceiving" us on Afghanistan, when he said from the start he was going to increase troops. I'm sick of people saying Obama stole our money by bailing out the banks, when the first bailout was passed under President Bush. Do I think we should bail out banks or increase troops? Absolutely not, but people are calling Obama a liar when he's really been pretty straightforward.
That being said, I'm pleased with what Obama has done. Yeah, the cap and trade bill and the healthcare bill aren't perfect by ANY means, but you have to pass something and build on it over time. These people who are "single-payer or nothing" piss me off, I wholeheartedly support single payer healthcare, but with out Congress it's just not possible.
I consider myself a social libertarian, I believe all social activities, whether it be drug use, marriage, pornography, whatever, there should be no laws restricting what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home.
One thing I'm sure many on here will disagree with me on is that I believe in semi-open borders, that is, under no circumstances deport or jail an immigrant. You don't choose where you're born, this is why I see extreme patriotism and fighting for your country to be ridiculous. You should fight for what is right, not what your country or congress supports.
Economically I believe in pretty strict regulation as far as banking goes, the deregulation of the 90's caused the recent economic meltdown. I believe in the private sector, but I think the government should control healthcare.
If you're so scared of socialism, next time your house catches on fire don't call 911. After all, who would support a socialist fire department?
