    I've brought it through unchecked before, and had people make me bring it back and check my bars, and go through security again, because the bars can be used as a weapon. Try and carry it on, but be prepared to have to check them.

    I've had them on like 4 years ago. They come with tiny little screws. Just drill holes that are smaller than the screws and thread them in with a screwdriver. And no, it won't affect the strength.
