I find them easier if you kinda kick using your back foot in a forward diagonal motion, and don't try to force them around, it helps you get a better feel for them. But yeah, just keep practising them when you're not working on other tricks.
I've got custom formed foam(?) orthotics, mainly for my flat feet, but I haven't had bad heelbruise since using them. I suggest athletic inserts or something along those lines.
Although I'm way too jumpy to play them, I love watching playthroughs. Cry of Fear is a recent favourite.
The one game I will never play is SCP-087-B. The fun thing is it's free.

Doing it right with all the Downside gear, nice scoot.
The old wheels are better in my opinion, the new ones are great too but mine are starting to have bearing slot problems. Still work fine though. Worth the price for sure.
