You don't need more than 2 inches. I rode some Tapered Rad OG bars that where tapered for like 4-6 months and the overlap was about an 1.5"-2" you dont need anymore than that.

Make your fork weaker, yes, but your bars will be stronger because there is less stress on the slit, so your bars will not crack.

I have been cutting my back peg since I first started riding pegs like a year ago. It is seriously stupid that companies dont make them shorter, but some decks need longer pegs for the back so it is whatever.
