If you're trying to save weight, I think an extra clamp would weigh more than a locknut.... If you think it looks bad just spray paint the locknut or something....

OMG, I made a scooter stand today in woodwork. I just trampled the scrap bin cut it all up with the band saw and drilled em together. Works awesome and it cost me 2 minutes :P
