Adhd?

People with ADHD piss me off some much. You have no idea, when my mom was married I had a stepsister, she bothered me so much I almost ripped her head off.

i dont care who is right or wrong but i know i have something. When i dont take my medicine im crazy. But for the people that do have it I CANT WAKE UP, i lose my balance and cant ride without the meds, they wear off and i get hungry as ----- when the medication wears off its pretty much like being high but way more intense, sometimes shy when i take my pills but it depends if im comfortable or not, the medicine makes me over think shit way to much, sometimes when im going for something big and i get sketched i can lose all my focus really easily.. just like if somebody takes a step i lose my focus. Anything in there that anybody can relate to? this is not the shitstorm thread, theres no reason to turn it into it.

why are some of you trying to say this thread is a shitstorm? it doesn't seem like anybody is replying with any animosity behind their post.

anyway, in the 50's ritalin was sold as an anti-depressant for adults. it had nothing to do with attention problems in kids. then the 60's came and people started experimenting with illegal drugs more and stopped relying on pharmaceutical companies and the sales of ritalin dropped to almost nothing. big pharma then created ADHD so that they could sell their drug to children and make an incredible amount of money. before the 60's there were absolutely zero cases of ADHD then all of a sudden in the 70's 1 out of every 3 children were being diagnosed with it. the fact that what is used for "helping kids with attention problems" was used as a totally different type of drug before ADHD showed up just raises a red flag for me and just seems like sketchy business.

if you don't know what an anti-depressant is a couple of examples are Zoloft and Prozac, which are both linked to suicide.

Don't have this shit. I didn't really think it existed either, all of the kids you see with it on TV are just chucking tantrums because they know they will get shit their way if they do that because their parents can't take it.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but the people you see that have really bad skitzoes and shit are more than likely exaggerating at the very least.

The Indica strains of cannabis fix mine up fairly well.

Fuck pills.

when my medicine wears off and i smoke weed it pretty much does the exact same thing as the medicine. I feel pretty much high as fuck when the pills wear off and if i smoke it pretty much makes me lose my high feeling. weed does pretty much the opposite for me than most people and i really dont like the feeling it gives me but ive never smoked with my medicine in me. And i know that people might have actually made up adhd or whatever but when a large group of people suffer from the same symptoms and the medication helps most of the symptoms then we have to have something. im trying to ween myself off the medication but its hard, i tried to just quit cold before and after about 4 days i had the worst temper, the smallest shit would set me off. I was taking two 36mg concerta when i moved to florida and im now at half that and im thinking about trying to quit it all together this year.

Hep do you still take medicine and if not do you still have the same symptoms as when you were taking medication because im trying to figure out if its the medicine they prescribe that gives the symptoms in the first place because i know they diagnose kids at a really young age, i was 5 i think.

nobody has adhd. it was made up in the 60's so that riddlin could be sold to kids because it wasn't making money anymore as an anti-depressant.

no. adhd is a disorder, hence the d at the end. adhd is when your brain develops slower than the average brain. thats why you get put on amphetamines to speed it up. we're trying to pump more knowledge into students than ever before and thats causing the standards to be raised and more kids on meth. its real we just deal with it wrong. instead of using meth we should be teaching kids at their own rate. oh and when you get older adhd symptoms die out because your brain stop developing. is it real, yes, are we dealing with it the right way? depends on who you ask.

its actually more of a money saving gimmik for schools than a money making gimmik for ritalin. costs a lot less to put 25 kids in a room with one teacher than individualize plans for everyone. put the slower learners/ inattentive kids on meth and you're good to go.mystery solved.

now theres research that backs adhd meds causing faster development in your brain, so you could say these meds are good for you .

I was diagnosed at the begging of this school year cause my grades got poor. I didn't think it would work but i mean my grades improved, so did my riding, and i can focus more. Even if its not real the medicine is helping me

I think the concept of ADD/ADHD is different to everyone..

Not sure if the anti-depressant story was true, but I'm not going to throw it out the window.

All I can say is that this is just my opinion and you may take it or leave it, I am not a shrink, doctor, psychologist or anything otherwise..

I was told that I had ADHD as a kid, and was pretty hyper most of the time. I had been given meds for the diagnosis, and now that I think back on it, it was pretty fucked up to give a child medication like that without any real reason.

In my case, I didn't have "ADHD", I was just genuinely a stubborn kid with a lot of energy.

I don't even want to imagine the number of kids who are being medicated for something they don't even have, it is perfectly NORMAL to be hyper as a kid and have a short attention span.

What most dumbass people don't realize.. is that the very kind of behavior resulting from the quick changes of thought and focus and the excess of energy these kids have can be focused to benefit them instead of drugging them to dull their curiosity and excitement.

Kids are going to do what interests them, most who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD haven't even fully learned that sometimes you need to do what needs to be done whether you like it or not and that comes with proper parenting and maturity.

It is great to have an active mind.. being quick to gain interest in new things and find enjoyment out of doing so is pretty beneficial.

Being hyperactive can be great too I believe. It shows energy, intelligence, and can be focused into a willingness to be productive in whatever the kid wants to do with his life later.

These are completely normal behaviors, and I do not believe anything is wrong with the behavior of the overwhelming majority of kids who are currently taking medication for ADD/AHDH.

I think the majority of parents are just too lazy, too occupied, or just too ignorant to understand their children's behaviors.

Now on the extreme cases where hyperactivity or a short attention span can be a detriment to living daily life.. I believe there is more to it than that.

I cannot say what that may be, because I feel that peoples personalities and perceptions are different to the individual, resulting greatly from the environment they grew up in and partly in their genetics. (genetics being the factor if they have a disability)

Because of that, I think classifying such common behaviors into a simple name and treating those behaviors as if they were all on the extreme side is just pure ignorance to the fact that people are individuals, and that they should be treated, diagnosed, and medicated (if truly needed) as individuals.

All medication has some sort of side effect, and should only be used in cases where someone could not function without it.

If you read this and happen to agree, sweet.. otherwise I'm more than happy to discuss what you think. =)

some symptoms of ADHD include procrastination, disorganized work habits, failure to complete tasks such as homework or chores, fidgeting, or squirming when seated, i mean all of that describes me and many of my friends. but most of us were never diagnosed. Even though i show more than one symptom from each catagory technically i don't have ADHD because my parents never took me to the doctors. in my opinion it seems like the symptoms are too broad and just describe what being an average kid is.

Snow i agree i think i was 6 when i started taking it and i think its pretty fucked up that any kid that shows signs of struggling in 1st grade gets put on medication before they even have a say in the matter. Also i agree with you anthony, thanks for the info guys!

ADD/ADHD are commonly misdiagnosed, although both do exist. The levels of how it affects the individual vary. Its not something too hard to get ones hands over, although it just takes mental power.

ADHD/ADD are nothing but a mind game. I was diagnosed with both when i was 6. I have been prescribed countless different medicines for it. I realized it was all in my head when i was about 11. the only thing medicine does it make your brain think it is affecting you in a positive way. You can function completely fine with out medicine you just have to realize that it is in your head. I haven't taken meds in 8 years now i just said no more pills one day. I have been completely able to function like anybody that doesn't have the so called disorders. Like others have said it affects everyone differently. So take from this what you want that is my opinion.
