it is essential to keep your scooter dialed in, your parts will last waaay longer. kids take it too far, but its good that they learn how to fix their own scooters. i tune my scooter almost every day before i ride. its just better that way.
Theirs a term us engineers like to use called "fatigue." It occurs within all of your parts during impacts, weight shifts, etc. When something isn't tight, your headset for example, it dramatically increases the concentration of force on your head tube, headset, and fork, therefore increasing the fatigue, which will ultimately make your parts not last nearly as long as they would if everything was tight and taken care of properly. Also, having a loose headset will will screw up your headset bearings and make them wear quicker, which will make it so your headset is undialed no matter how much you tighten it.
Basically, there are some things on your scooter that should be dialed if you want your parts to last a long time and not give you a headache. Small things like brakes are not as crucial when dialing in your scooter, and are up to the rider to take care of.
It kills me to see kids with expensive set ups they bought to get their scooter dialed, then ride them completely undialed because they don't know how to perform maintainence, that would have made their scooter dialed in the first place (for free).
Persoanlly, I prefer to try to keep my scooty scoot dialed, even though my headset is screwed up and it becomes loose sometimes.
