alex, i love the way you shut all these people down. people need to stop talking down on this deck

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohh,SHUT DOWN! Seriously,I have nothing against Proto but, this deck is definitely over priced and to me would have hardly any structural benefits over a Lucky.

I want this deck, but proto needs to make a cheaper headtube. I mean the deck itself must be super cheap, but the headtube it was over done. Cut out the excess machining and engraving and sell this deck way cheaper.

If you don't like the deck, how about get out of the thread for it?!
It's a awesome looking deck, and if its as strong as it's marketed to be, which i believe it is as Proto is as legit as it gets, then it will be well worth the price.
And if its not, and you break either the headtube or the deck:
1: buy the deck for 70, super cheap.
2: get a new headtube for free, from the lifetime warranty
Do you really think a company would give there product a lifetime warranty if its weak? Thats right, no.

I usually don't like nitpicking at flaws in arguments, but I think there is something to be said. First of all, all the extra engraving and such are in places where the cnc bit will already have already cut from, so those don't add to the price. And besides, if there truly were some cuts from the headtube could be simplified or tweaked, they would make an insignificant difference in the final price, if any at all. Its a huge piece of billet aluminum that gets a long time in a very expensive mill at some machine shop. No matter which way you slice it, its pricey. Any change to the headtube in hopes to lowering cost will also generally sacrifice strength or weight or both. Secondly, once you've purchased the deck/headtube, you'll only be replacing the deck from then on (headtube breaks, its replaced free). If you break this deck, then you will most certainly be breaking phoenixs, districts, tsis, etc., all of which are more expensive than simply replacing the proto deck. Switching out the decks by loosening 3 bolts and a back axle ain't that bad either. I don't plan on buying one, at least for awhile, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

You pay up big in the beginning but in the long run you save money and you dont have to worry about cracks in welds or that you will grind through your expensive deck and thus the whole deck is useless.

As many people keep saying, it is not overpriced. The deck is relatively expensive to produce so it is relatively expensive to sell. We are not making a cheap deck and selling it for $250.
i think i saw alex saying the deck costs 70 but the headtube cost 180. maybe make a cheaper alternative headtube?
We are looking into cutting down the cost of the headtube but to significantly do so it takes a good amount of money on our part. Once it is cheaper you will definitely notice. And don't quote me on the $70/180 break, it may not be that extreme, but the headtube is certainly more expensive than the deck.

You should maybe make a cheaper model with a normal headtube, and sell it at say $180, just an idea.

As I said, we are trying to bring the price down. We did not set out to make an expensive deck, we set out to make a strong, reliable, working deck and the price came out to what it is. Again, once the deck is cheaper you will notice. There is no point in trying to help is cut the costs down because we know what we need to do.

i had a thought, and i kinda went back on it in a couple ways, but lets say you buy just the deck. mount any brake whatever.

now, you have this beautifully wide deck, and no ht! so you look at the options and it just so happens a competing company of my interest (district) makes a head tube for the deck, so you can have the style you like. why couldnt that happen?

and then i remember that proto has a HUGE pet peeve with anything NOT made by them (HIC) and I thought, so if they cant play well with others THAT way, why would andrew DARE let another company in and make something for his deck?

a few debates like that have flown through my mind. just curious on the outcome

This deck is sick! I have ridden one, but i would like to! Proto is as legit as it gets, You guys are all giving Alex steadman bullsht**for your opinions, Look at it this way, snap a district every six months, buy a new one no warranty, this deck won't snap even if you dropped your mom on it. Dont give Him bull theyre trying its not even mass produced yet, just give it time, and Alex i think its sick af! Id die to ride one!

Andrew already gave TSI the option to do so, but they did not go with it. So your point is already invalid, sorry.
