my ordinary grippers have loads of horizontal cracks in the urethane, getting bigger each day(and im not riding close to hard, i only have one arm)

Could be. I know 2 other people that have brand new grippers and theyve been riding more than I have lately (the same spots i ride), and they dont have any cracks or problems.
