excactly same happened with me
but don't have any spare money to buy new one so i shortened my chain and now i have only one gear

haha it broke cause I was trying to get the brake out of the deck but it was kinda stuck so I started hammering it from the back and after like 3 blows it just snapped.

Its called a stress crack and like every one thats like 6 months old gets one. it doesnt effect to deck tho.
