Take a look in the bars section, I made a specific thread wih pictures in it. Only difference between what I posted and now is that the bolts are on the back of my bars instead of the front so you can't feel the lump at all.

I think 2" would be the max, but if you had say 1.125 inside the bars vs. .750 like I have now, I bet you could pull off 3". Idk, it be a prototyping process. Perhaps I'll make some longer ones tonight and see how they feel.

I got some material from my shop and turned them up in a lathe ;-) just took some measurements from my bars and done.
