About the X-Games...

Alright, I'm not trying to be like, the all knowing kinda guy or anything, especially since I'm new to the sport and to the forums, but I've been skating and in the whole "action sports" scene for a long time.

It's fair to compare rollerblading to scootering as far as we get the short end of the stick in popularity and respect. Rollerblading is a much larger sport and has more respect than scootering, which is...unfortunate.

As you know, rollerblading was in the X-games. Let's analyze this...

While other sports were just toying around with backflips and backflips tricks, rollerblading was doing 540 spins with flips, double flips, launchless flips, etc.

The two top vert riders were brothers and would come down to them in the end for gold and silver.

One vert rider claimed double backflip, and if he landed it would have assured a gold medal. While he bailed it twice, out of nowhere another rider had learned them and threw it and landed it.

All of this excitement and storylines and progression going on.

And rollerblading is no longer in the X-Games. Maybe it was because the tricks were "too complex". When fans see a flip and spin and everyone goes wild, and then see another flip and spin but everyone goes beserk cuz the tricks never been done before, they feel out of place. They can't tell the subtle difference between the tricks, and feel like they're missing out on the excitement. Maybe scootering is like this too. A handful of tricks are easy to tell apart, 1080, double back, etc. But can the general public tell the difference between a bri-flip tailwhip and a bri-flip heelwhip? Now imagine when trying to figure out the difference between backflip combos that haven't been done yet.

Not demeaning the tricks or anything, just saying maybe right now, it's too hard to follow. Rollerblading is a lot bigger, and they aren't even in the X-games anymore. So just chill, ride hard, and whatever happens happens.

What about skateboarding? Swith vs Reg, Nollie vs Fakie?

and biking has tailwhip and opposite tailwhip, and they can tell them apart just fine..haha. i think about that too though, not really being able to tell tricks part but that say, if i threw a tailwhip to barspin instead of just a taliwhip, would the judges be able to see the barspin if im a good distance from them? probably not...whereas, with bikes, a barspin is pretttty obvious.

I'm not saying that people can necessarily determine if in skating it's switch or if it's nollie or fakie or anything. But since skateboarding and BMX are sort of the bigger events, people get things explained to them (They often refer to switch as throwing a baseball with your opposite arm). With inline, they just sorta said the trick outloud but didnt explain it or anything. I feel like that's how it would be with scootering. They'd be like "Oh my god a double bri-flip!" and then "Oh my god a double scooter flip" and everyone would be like "Is there a difference?"

It'd be sick to see Jesse drop in for his first run in an X-Games arena, but as of right now, we're very very far off.

I think the reason that rollerblading was dropped out of the xgames is that, unlike skating and bmx, it may not seem very spectacular to the public. Not to mention that somethimes I find myself making fun of thousands of rollerblade grinds with idiotic names. As I count, there are like three cathegories of rollerblading tricks:
  • *Spins/flips *Grabs *Grinds and stalls
On a scooter you can do all of those above and moreover:
  • *Barspins*Manuals*Tailwhips*Limbless/Motocross tricks*Turndowns/tabletops*Scooterflips
This not only shows the variety but also the combo possibilities which, according to further mathematical calculations, are 12 times bigger than when rollerblading.
Edit:fixed.

you missed a few for the scooters pete,

-grabs
-grinds
-manuals
-fakies
-switch
-flips/spins

i think what pete said is a good reason as to why rollerblading might not be in the x games anymore, because basically, you can grind, stall, or flip/spin its almost like freestyle walking, which will probably never be in the x games. i never ever see rollerbladers anymore either, so maybe the sports starting to die down? whereas i see scooterers a lot more than i ever used to, and a lot more than rollerbladers.

oh and i have a question why is it that like 99% of rollerbladers wear really baggy pants and either muscle shirts or shirts that are way too big?

I dont know. I never liked rollerblading.
I just don't think that scootering will be in the X-Games anytime soon. And if i'm wrong, than you can all officially say I told you so. And I'll buy everyone a meal (at burger king)

the one reason y scooters will not be in x games is bcoz, when ppl look at a scooter they think of a 8 year old rolling to the shops not a 17 year old hucking a dub backie. also bcoz as u guys no there is like no major companys bsides micro and razor where as with skating, bmx, rollablades all have like 98765793842 big companys behind them and thats y i think there not in x games but onece they gain that they will be for sure...

when talking about the public... no, it will never catch on to a point that normal people. and seriously, does anyone actually believe scooters will be in the xgames? because thats just not gonna happen. the xgames exist so espn can get ratings, scooters will never bring in ratings, so they will never be on tv. its as simple as that.

the only thing we can hope for is something comparable to the metro jam. a contest by riders, for the riders. possibly get some coverage on fuel tv or something like that, but thats in the DISTANT future.

honestly, scooters arent at a level yet that they deserve to be on tv. there arent enough riders that are good enough to impress the general public.

give it a couple years then MAYBE, and thats a big maybe.

ther are some that will impress people like john radtke, jesse mac, kc, josh t., and more. but yeah it might not be in the xgames for a while. its just you have to get the word out about scootering and show them what its all about. plan SR ride days try and get it more popular, make videos and send them to someone. someone should make one big vid of all the best scootererz ans send it to someone connected to the x games. then you will have a better chance of getting scooters in to the x games.

scootering has to get popular. the only way we're going to get it popular is to keep on riding. so that we must.

just people riding isnt going to change anything. people have to start riding DIFFERENT. yeah john radtke might be able to flip double whip, but i dont see him doing it over a 12 ft box jump.

in my opinion theres very few riders that have thwat it takes to draw attention. im not saying that other people are bad, its just not exactly attention grabbing.

watch cary and coedies videos, and jesses next video when it comes out. thats the kind of stuff im talking about. not just big tricks, but big tricks over BIG RAMPS. thats what matters.

why? if scootering gets in the xgames it will get more popular than ever. more companies will come out. and if it gets really popular maybe even scootering parks (it is kinda over the top, but you never know, it might happen). anyway i thought scootering was going to be in the xgames in austrailia. thats what someone told me. and sean, yeah i agree a little bit. it would be even better cuz it will draw attention if it was over a 12 ft box.

I've seen way too many of these threads about the x games... and really does it matter? i mean why care if it gets in the x games? As long as you, yourself is having fun on a scooter then keep riding them. It should just be that simple. Have fun riding scooters ---> Ride them. Doesn't need to turn into some huge sport with a lot of sponsors. It would be nice but it doesn't matter. What we have now is completely fine. We can just go out and ride scooters, have fun, end the day. I just don't see why sooo many people think it would be the best thing in the world to get into the x games.

yeah i suppose. matters if you want more people to scooter though. scooter companies would make more money cuz of more people and groups like whip scooters, nbs, dxg, and more would be more popular selling more dvds of riding, and make enough money to start something bigger.

i think thats wrong i think that the stuff going down is big enough to get respect and stuff but its no members of the public have a clue its happening

X-games would bring so much more to the sport. More companies, more riders, new tricks... everyone could have more fun riding scooters if they were in the xgames, you wouldn't have fun getting to ride infront of a huge crowd, being on tv and even winning money for it? I hate when people get on about that your just having fun stuff, being in the xgames is having fun. More people would see the sport too and you dont have to put up with any of that omg hes on a kiddie scooter bullshit at parks anymore because people will know its forreal. Its just not the right time yet imo.
