Adult (23) Looking For Scooter

Hey team,

Been lurking around for a few days and the only things I've been able to find on the topic are as follows:

- Adult scooters are large, have bigger wheels, fold, are used for commuting and are cheap.
- Freestyle/Trick/Pro scooters are small, built like tanks, don't fold, and are more expensive.

I'd have no problem buying a pro scooter right now but I'm a 6'2", 240lb, rugby player....
Now that you've stopped laughing at the image of me riding a scooter, let's continue.

I guess my main areas of concern are:
- Are the pro scooters out there capable of handling my weight? (It's not going anywhere, need it for the sport).
- Are there pro scooters out there with adjustable/longer bars so that I won't have to practically crouch while riding the thing. (I'm obviously not expecting to stand up straight while riding it but if I got on any of your rides I'd be the hunchback of Notre Dame).
- What are your top two brands in terms of quality? (Price is fairly irrelevant in this case)

I've been lurking the MGP youtube channel for two days but I feel like they're the Apple of the scooter community. Overpriced and only popular because they're considered "cool".

I'd much rather ride a no-name scooter that's just as good if not better than a huge brand name product and pay out my ass to do it.

If you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can provide on the topic then I'd be happy to do so.

Let's talk.

1st, A "Pro" scooter would most likely be your best bet because if your 240 I highly doubt a foldable will do much good, 2nd, "Pro" scooters do not have to be small. A TSI or a Phoenix deck would definitely be big enough for you. As for bars TSI or Affinity both make bars that can be maxed out at around 30 high by 25 wide. Unfortunately price is gonna be the toughest part for you because you pretty much get what you pay for.

Ahaha I apologize for my use of "pro" but you know what I mean. Let's call them trick scooters then. =)

TSI/Phoenix decks and TSI/Affinity bars. Noted.
Will go look into these now.

Do most bars fit most scooters? Or does each brand of bar/scooter have different widths they'd use to avoid swip-swapping bars w/ decks?
(If that isn't clear, I'm referring to the literal circumference of the vertical shaft of the bars)

Any bar will fit as long as you are using the correct compression system. Scs : Standard compression system that allows you to ride standard sized bars and depending on what scs clamp oversized as well.

HIC: Hidden internal compression only works with oversized bars.
I know for a fact that affinity and tsi make oversized bars so I would get oversized with HIC only because it is significantly cheaper compared to SCS

Wow thanks so much for all this effort, really going above & beyond here.
If you've got the time, would you mind explaining why you've picked each item since this is all very new to me?

Random question but are you planning on doing tricks or just for cruising?

i chose the deck because i ride one and like it because of the larger footspace. the deck comes in 4.5 wide or 5.0 wide if you have larger feet.I also ride a tilt legacy fork and ive never had one problem with it.The headset doesnt exactly matter what brand because most integrated headsets are practically the same. i ride proto bars because im 6'1 and the taller bars make it so my back doest hurt, but affinity and TSI also make great bars that come taller than average bars.now for compression SCS is essentially the best(i linked a video at the bottom of how it works) and for wheels its all what you prefer, the differences are the hardness of the urathane and the core designs.

I'll definitely be cruising but when the time comes where I need to hop a curb or streetcar tracks daily (Toronto is covered in them) I don't want the thing exploding into pieces.
But then I'll also put it through it's paces if I'm riding it casually.

I can just imagine one of those "Adult folding commuter" scooters just falling apart after a bit of wear and tear.

if your only looking to cruise on it and not really trying to do tricks then you may just want to buy a complete scooter then just upgrade to taller bars.

It's mainly going to be used for commuting, sure let's label it that way.

However, when the time comes where I want to open it up and actually have some fun on it I want it to be able to handle everything just fine.

So why not build it as such so that it's ready and willing for Friday night when I open it up a bit.

yeah thats a great idea,i asked the cruiser question because some people just want a cheaper end scooter if they arent intending on doing tricks at all.however teh higher end scooters will be much comfortable and will be much stronger and last much longer.

Nah if I'm going to invest in one it'll be a quality product that can handle tricks and fucking around then it should be able to.
Then of course function as a mode of transport after the fact.

Also, if you're still around, what's it like riding in Vancity with all the rain?
Will actually be heading out there in ~6months so this is probably a much more important question than I realized.
