bar welding

What??? No!! The last thing you want to do is "stick weld" (SMAW) your broken aluminum bars. Have you ever used aluminum welding rod?? Its terrible shit and should only be used as a very last resort on non-critical welding applications. Even aluminum MIG (GMAW) is not a very good choice for welding something like scooter bars.
Your only option for welding broken aluminum scooter bars is to TIG (GTAW) weld them... and even then, I would just suggest getting new bars.;)

.
Lol, I know more about welding than you'd think.

if you could get bars welded for free, go for it but otherwise as this guy said it probably wont be cost effective and the sudden snap could be dangerous, especially if you had a tomk style fall. also mr.h knows his stuff about bars. possibly the best in the game (havent seen one snap)

Yah, exactly. If you have to pay then don't do it but you may as well if its free.
And tom's fall, they were steel Lucky bars weren't they? can't believe that was a year ago already. I still want to hit those stairs haha they're only like 15 minutes away from my house. I'm too much of a puss though.

No.

I mean its do-able but it would look so shitty. Best bet is tig because most parts are relatively small. And I do believe some decks are machine mig. Mig is the fastest/easiest way to weld something. If your looking for something extremely fine or little than its tig.
Really thick metal or like welding in huge gaps and or holes would be stick/arc.

Even if he got a tig welder isn't it really hard and takes a lot of practiceto get a nice weld on aluminum? I never used a tig or welded aluminum yet but I know even my medal shop teacher still isn't great at welding aluminum.

I've welded chromoly and aluminum with my tig, I was being sarcastic because if you have to ask others if you should weld your bars then you probably shouldn't do it.

He didn't say he was going to weld them- he asked if welding the Crack was a good idea.

It is a very good idea to ask this question. He has received some very good advice and also sarcastic remarks about Stick welding it :)

I don't understand why you feel the need to throw out such answers since you seem to know the correct answer????

I would recommend not welding it, your bars will not last.

Alu bars are very weak, so I'd go with a chrome-moly pair next.

By the way you can weld alu with mig or stick.

some aluminum parts are machine welded.

There are tons of ways to weld.

ARC

(TIG, MIG, STICK)

LASER

MACHINE

EXPLOSION

SONIC

FRICTION

BRAZING

(MAPP GAS, OXY ACETYLENE)

and more..

There is an abundance of ways to fuse metal.

But each one has a specific category in wich it is better in.

Like in Welding for a living and jobs, the most common is stick because its easier to use and carry around.

Also good for making loud explosions.

I've never seen a qualified boilermaker welder use a stick welder off site before.
