First Car

I have about $3k to spend on a car. I'm looking towards a sedan or possibly some sort of SUV. Something fuel efficient preferably.
I've been looking at early 2000's Nissan Maximas, but I've only found high mileage. Any suggestions?

I bought a 1992 VW GLI Jetta for 250 and came with Recaro seat, BBS rims, and two 12 inch sub in the back for $250. Best investment I ever made hahaha. And it's manual tranny.

I'm kinda skeptical about Civics, I've heard they're pretty shitty.

Civics themselves aren't shitty but it's their status and nature that makes them likely to be run to the ground and riced, being replaced with a fartcan and a flat sanded paint job because they're a mainstream cheap reliable smaller car with a good fuel economy. It's almost like how people run their neons into the ground except that it's different. That or it's some unexplainable phenomenon why select college aged kids want to put 5 foot spoilers on them, etc.

you want good gas mileage, and a six cylinder? bigger engine = worse gas mileage.

whoever said anything about civics are shitty is a bullshitter. people hate on them because they're so trendy, but honestly that's because they're one of the most reliable cars out there. i'd so go for a honda. avoid VW, too many problems. fords have a few problems but once they're fixed you're set for a while. BTW you could get a honda with 200k+ on it and it'll still last another hundred thousand miles haha. also, look into acuras.. acura is owned by honda. nissans are good but they're generally a bit more to fix. toyotas are also cheap since they're made in the USA, as well. but avoid older ones.. they have a LOT of problems. geo = toyota, check those. not popular so people let them go for cheap. FUCK mitsubishi. don't even waste your time with them. VWs are an investment along with Audis.

and as for an SUV i'd say a toyota 4runner, my dad's is still perfect and from what i know it hasn't been in the shop once.

I'm looking in bigger surrounding cities like Kansas City and St. Louis, there's nothing but '93 silverados around here.

Try to stick to something reliable as well. You don't want your first car to have millions of issues.

I turn 16 in 9 days, hopefully im getting a ford ranger.
Are you lying?

I might start looking harder at Civics then. You've been the third one to tell me that Nissans are pricey to fix so I might lean away from those.

You can get quite a bit for 3 grand right now. I had a Jetta at one point and it was a great car and it is easy to find one for 3 grand. I would not get an automatic, but that is my personal preference.

My dad is a mechanic and ive heard him say all of this exactly. Hondas go forever, VW's are problem causers, fords are decent ect.

subaru bruh, you could probably find like a 94 or around that year impreza for 3k, i got my 96 legacy for 1700 with 202k on it and it runs like a dream. subarus last forever so dont be too skeptical about high miles, although make sure its been maintained but then again thats the same with every other car

depending on his area, i don't think he'll find a good subaru for 3k. people generally drive them into the ground. unless it's an olddd one. you're spot-on, though, subarus last a really long time. although some people say they're expensive to fix. i don't know much about them other than the fact that kids bust over WRXs and STis. that's kind of it.

like i said, honda. civics, accords, civic hatches. toyota corollas or even newer camrys, avoid the older ones. ford focuses, fusions, etc. avoid escorts. my aunts has a fuckload of problems.
