French ID Fork Discussion.

WTF? I just noticed that the French I.D. logo on my forks is on the opposite side of the forks facing the headset and the front is blank, while all others that ive seen are the opposite. I just ordered mine from Inward scooters so maybe they are like the new models or something since inward just got them in not too long ago but I'm not going to bother pinning it because its not my fault if they break and I should be able to get a new pair for free since they're defective, but hopefully the new ones like I got have fixed this problem.

i really need to pin mine my scs is starting to pull the fork legs and tube apart. :/

ZOMG blaaah just blaaa...

Once again my post:

Think about it, cmon it's not that hard really...
On the 2 forks with pulled out legs, the crown race was still holding up on the fork...
And when the SCS "pulls" the fork, the pressure is on the crown race to compress th headset...
If it was the SCS's fault, don't you think the crown race would have gone down the tube together with the legs?

of the two that broke, one of them was grinded to fit 125mm wheels, and it broke off.
th other one wasmine, and the race did come off with the fork.
its logical that it was the SCS's fault.

there is another solution to this, but im not sure if its gonna work. once my brother gets gets his fork well test it out then ill let you guys know as soon as possible.

by the way, can somebody do me a favor? can you tell me if the compression bolt that comes with the scs fit into a razor axle bolt please. thanks

Any compression system that uses a starnut inside the fork pulls the exact same way you dip.
Even if they were threaded itd be pulling the legs.
It is not the scs fault.

How To Pin A FrID Fork

You Need:
-One 3/16 x 2 "tension pin"
-Drill Gun
-11/64 Drill Bit

Step 1: Using your drill gun and 11/64 drill bit start to drill a hole at the top of the "D" on
the front side of the fork.
Step 2: Drill a straight hole all the way through until you reach the other side.
Step 3: Hammer the 3/16 "Tension" pin into the hole until it reaches the end.
Step 4: Cut off the excess pin and sand until smooth.

Hope it Helps!!! :D

hey man thanks a lot i cant wait to do this
just 1 thing... where can i get the tension pin?

Tension pins are in every hardware store, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

I reckon welding would be better only if you could get it heat treated.
Welding this fork wouldn't be as effective/cheap as pinning it! It might
make is more solid but would be hard to weld and heat treat can get costly.

*NEW*
Some of you already may know that the French ID logo is now printed on the back of
the forks instead of the front. Yes, I know it sucks! But for some reason I kinda like it!
Also, getting a star-nut into thing is fuckin' hard without machinery! Haha.....

yea the one i ordered from c4 a few months back had the logo printed on the back. and i broke a starnut trying to install it so i went to the bike shop and they installed it for sumthin like $4 includeing the starnut so it was def worth it
sg085s.jpg

and for mine i drilled a small hole and tapped it so i could thread a small allen head bold off a razor deck as u can c, and then i sandblasted it and the pic is right after a few coats of clear had dried

just another pic of the sandblasted finish

^thats hella nice. and a good idea with the allen bolt.
I think it would be best to have to thread something in there Jon, not like yours where you hammered it in, cuz then it will stay in place and not move if it is hit or anything.

Looks good David!

The tension pin will not move, it was made for things like this. I also got a brand
new French ID fork. I didn't drill all the way through, just like from the back up
to about halfway in the front. I also hammered the tension pin from the back so
the front of the fork isn't touched. The thread idea was good too and I like it.
Maybe soon enough we the customer, wont be having to do these modifications.

Hello, I'm popping this thread up.

We considered the problem and French Id has modified the new forks which will be sold soon. They come with a little screw on the back of the fork. There are still two things to improve and French ID forks will really be solid.

By the way, here's a method to make your home made fork with 2 pins on both sides:

www.trotirider.com/xts/FrenchID/Photos/forkrepair.JPG

-Use a marking jauge to spot the good place where to drill the hole. (to do the horizontal mark, have your fork being horizontal putting a weight on it).
-Drill 2 holes on the sides , as indicated.
-Use 2mm pins and put them in with a hammer.

If the tube of the fork has already started to come out from its hole, use a press (try to keep it vertical as much as possible). Hammer is not a really good way to put it back by the way.

Result on a broken fork:

It totally worked... resurrection on that one.
Hope you'll enjoy my modification.
