Motivation/Hype to ride?

Ive been riding for over 5 years now, before I was always super pumped to ride anything with anyone anywhere anytime.
Over the past year or so ive been lazy, not riding as much and when i do i never push myself or progress. Heaps of guys have quit but theres still a handful of homies to ride with although theyre hell far away but its not too big an issue.
I really wanna just ride to my fullest but I just dont have that drive like before
Has anyone else had this and overcome it idk?

motivation can go up and down at times, personaly i have never really contemplated quitting but motivation can vary. recently i watched loads of brandon kilbury vids as i remember when i first started he was the rider i looked up to the most that really got me more motivated. another thing is just to try and enjoy yourself that will make you motivated with out even trying.

a little story, i went to my on saturday local for the first time in like 4 months as i had to study loads for oxford entrance exams and the weather was really bad so i had not been able to ride there, only flat in my cellar, i do a bri air on a quarter and my shoulder fully dislocates out of ball and socket joint just because of the bri motion, it was in mid air when it happened (as i dislocated my shoulder before it now dislocates reallllly easy). doesn't put me off riding though, today i had a really fun sesh on my street alone, it was just really fun, another thing for motivation is to try new tricks as learing a new trick is soooooooo fun imo. bottom line is try to make scootering as fun as possible and motivation will come naturally, also think of all the people who dont have the opportunity to ride, maybe thinking each sesh could be your last might help.

hope some of this helped

Thanks for all the replys guys, yeah i think all you guys are right, ive gone back and watched a bunch of really old videos and seeing how much more creative the tricks where made me realize im thinking to narrow mindedly about tricks and riding in general. I think as you guys said i need to try stuff that ive previously kinda dismissed which for me would be like flow bowl riding and high airs.

All the suggestions offered by people are decent, but here is the best one. If riding isn't fun for you anymore, stop riding. Go ahead and take some time off! It can actually be really good to pursue other interests for a bit. After enough time, I've found that I do want to ride more after a little break. You don't have to "quit", (and god forbid sell your scooter like some kids I know did) just do something else instead. It's nice to try skating, then go back to the scooter after your ego gets deflated.

THIS.

Last summer i got my Bike license and was on it 24/7. I stopped riding my scooter for like all summer (wasn't hyped to ride at all because only young kiddos ride here) but now we have winter here and I wan't to ride sooo badly. Next year some of the old shredders want to start again. I'm pretty pumped. But I needed the break.

Just appreciate it man! Its a crazy fucking thing, that piece of metal under your feet and in your hands that feels for some strange reason normal. In this life, your life, sure, its normal I guess..? But, look at every other human on this planet, and tell me how many of them would really understand or comprehend the complexities, stylistic nuances, whackness and freshness, the continuity of a clean line or the complete mental occupation of a banger? And we're just one species man! We're a really small part of the earthly community. There are thousands, millions of other species doing all sorts of crazy things, all with their own cultures, lifestyles, and effects on the environment. And earth is just a tiny tiny speck in our galaxy that is one of millions of galaxies that occupy more area than any human could ever comprehend. Think about in all of that, the chance for you to be sitting there, maybe with a few good mates, riding a fucking scooter? And it makes you happy? Like fuck, theres nothing else that lets you express yourself in the same way. painting, playing music, filming, dancing, singing, sculpting, writing, and an infinite amount of other things are all awesome ways of expressing yourself, but what things like scootering, skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, BMX give us is extremely unique and untouched anywhere else. The act of feeling your body constantly moving towards something that is always changing, the state of being, moving, morphing your actions, consciousness, and intention into and onto a surface. The surface that you must interpret in your own way, in a way no one has ever done before because nobody has the same body, thoughts, feelings, style, and emotions as you. You are constantly relaying the way you have felt before and the way you feel in your body and in your mind onto what you are doing. Your process of thought, your body feelings, and your reaction time are all used to interpret a surface or obstacle in your own way. That is what is all coming out, whether you want to admit it, romanticize it, discuss it or not, everything you have ever been, seen, or done comes out when you are scootering. You have a job, no an obligation, to take advantage of such a beautiful and unique with all of its pains, sufferings, and shortcomings, or if it just isn't doing it for you, find another art form in which to express yourself. Its all about you and what you desire. Make your scootering good, scooter for the good of art and creating and being really fucking stoked and happy, and your scootering will give you and teach you more than you ever wanted to know, but such self-searching will lead you to an extremely hard path, which Buddhism aptly refers to as "The Path". Let scootering be not something you need, but something you are. Do it very lightly, every trick, more lightly than you ever have. Allow the universe to do all the work, you are just a radio antenna for what is really going on out there in the universe. You have to just fucking scooter man, its really the best. Just look at the earth and how it really couldn't be any other way, but at the same time, it could be so many other fucking ways, and just love that feeling. Its great exercise too!

I am 27 and had this about two years ago . Best thing to do is block out all external distractions and treat it like art by letting your creativity flow.Maybe give yoga or meditation a go , helped me loads! I used to say "im getting too old for this !" Or " im not progressing fast enough and should be at a higher level" but truth is it comes down to fun ! Find your fun and im sure the passion will follow.
