NEW POST, PLEASE HELP!

ok so i put my star nut in, then tightened it really hard and i heard a crack almost, took my bars off, and found out my star nut cracked in fucking half. but i had another, so i hammered the old one out, and put the new one in, everything straight and shit, so i tighten all my stuff down, now the long allen bolt is really tight, and my double bar clamp is super tight, but theres still play, should i tighten the long allen bolt more? im just scared of stripping it. thanks.

yea....the steering tube gets skinnier further up just make sure the starnut is aligned and then pound it into the skinnier part further up

well then either raise your bars to like 18s I think that would be a good height for you or just cut them down even more at the bottom of the t-tube

alright haha.

i guess this is to andrew, but do you know what the lowest possible height of bars is to be able to ride the fork fine?

You could probably ride your bars like 2 inches high if you cut everything right and left space for the compression system but to answer your question you just need to cut off more of your T tube and it will be fine.

If the bolt is already REALLY tight then something is wrong because that bolt should only be snugged.

Do you have the cone installed that sits on top of the top cap on your headset to keep it all centered? It sounds like you might be missing that or you have something in your bearings that isn't letting everything sit correctly.

well my headset has a bit of play in it because i need to put the starnut in farther... it was solid when i first put it in but it got a bit of play in it but never got any worse, and im used to the tiny bit of it in there. Next time i have my fork off (probably to reinforce it) ill hit my starnut in another half inch to an inch haha.

And dan, i would do the same for you.. make sure your t-tube is nowhere near the starnut to be safe lol (i dont have to worry bout it because i have rads :) ) and then hit the starnut in another inch or so, because stripping the starnut/bolt or something along those lines is reallllly gay ive done it lol.

The black ring right below your double clamp is the top cap. It should have a smaller ring that sits inside of it that is kind of wedge shaped that keeps everything tight. If you don't have that in there then it will be loose. If that ring is there then do what Dibbs said and make sure your star nut is in deep enough... maybe try tapping it in another half inch or so.

soorry about the dub post but as of right now theres only like an inch of the allen bolt left with the star nut hammered in as far as it is right now, im worried that if i hammer it any farther in then the bolt won't reach.

thats what i thought but the bike shop dude said it would be better so he did it and it was perfect. no i broke my bars and i have to do it again gay

Just take your time... you might have to take it apart a few times to reset the star nut just make sure it stay straight and doesn't go too deep.

The bolt only really needs to grab like a 1/4" for it to work but if you are threading it in an inch then it's probably not deep enough. Try tapping it deeper like a 1/4" at a time and see what it feels like when you put it all back together if its still loose take it apart and go another 1/4".

I know it's a pain to set this stuff up for the first time but once you have it dialed it you will never look back.
