Didnt see a thread, or a recent one for that matter about it. Space, pretty freaking sweet and interesting but so mind boggling haha especially blackholes and that stuff. What do you guys think, multiverse, flat or open, nebulas, blackholes or really anything about outer space. Go
plus it makes sweet computer backgrounds

Anyway, I love space. It really boggles the mind. To put things in perspective, it's estimated that we can only observe less than one hundredth of the universe because the distances are so great that the light from the big bang would not have reached us yet from some places. So all we see is nothing.

just think our own galaxy the milky way

fdy72w.gif

is roughly 100,000-120,000 LIGHT YEARS across. so if you could stand on one end of the milky way and turn on a star, the light would take that many years to reach the other side! and light travels at 186,282 miles per second!!!!!

now take into acount that the CLOSEST spiral galaxy to us, Andromeda is about 2.6 MILLION light years away! And there are over 170 BILLION galaxies in the observable universe!

its just too big to even comprehend.

Once I finish my undergrad and fulfill my teaching obligations to the state because of my scholarship, I want to go back for a degree that'll put me in space, talking about space, looking at space, etc. It is the final frontier and I want to be there.

If anyone has netflix, check out "Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking".
And if there was one thing I could do before I died, it would be to travel into outer space.

Space is so unfathomably huge and in our lives we will discover so little of it. Life definitely exists out there because it's as good as infinite, if it isn't actually. I have Carl Sagan's Cosmos on DVD and it's great so far. I also have almost all of his books.

a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second is how long it took the universe to expand from the size of an atom to the size of a baseball. following that it went from the size of a baseball to the size of planet earth in the next billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second. and the universe is still expanding. fucking mind boggling
