Rad HIC and Headset to Go With It

So I'm new around here, and I had a question regarding the Rad bars and internal compression. I'm wondering about the hic. What exactly is it? I pretty much know how inverted compression works but i'm wondering about HIC. Thanks!

bars and headsets dont matter. bars and forks matter. if it a threaded fork then your fine, if its a threadless fork you need a compression system of some sort.

O and rad has 2 different sized bars for their compression system which covers the fork making the fork thicker which mean you would need a bigger steer tube size
 
i'm probably going to be getting a rad fork to go with it. And I need a seperate compression system if I get a threadless fork? I'm planning to get a threadless headset, threadless fork, and the rad bars w/ built in compression. If I need another compression what's the point of the HIC rad compression? thanks!

ya with threadless forks you need a threadless headset and a comepression system of any kind or else your bars wont clamp and stay on your forks

well you can still clamp bars to a threadless fork just fine, its just that you need the compression system to "compress" the headset and make everything tight with no play and rattle. however with the rad 1 3/8 bars you need their compression or SCS because the ID of the bars is too big for the fork

and what is their compression? I know about inverted and scs, but what's their compression?

its a shim over the fork, a starnut goes in the fork then a headset cap goes over the shim and pushes down on it compressing the headset then the bars fit over all of that
 
pics? And how is this different than inverted? I know that with regualy inverted the star nut's in the bars, but I guess I'm confused. And how will the scs video help me if I'm looking at rad compression?

The HIC is pretty much like the SCS, you thread a bolt into a star nut in the forks to compress the headset and remove play.
Unlike the SCS, with the HIC, your OverSized 1 3/8" bars (RAD Bars) slide right over the compression system, and use a normal clamp (Like the Proto Half Knuckles, for example).

The compression system has 2 slits in it, so when you clamp the bars, it is clamping onto the forks. So your alignment won't come off if you tighten the clamp enough.


Edit: Everyone who tried to help him, you should take the time to read what he's really asking. He doesn't need to know how compression systems work, he wants to know Specifically about the RAD HIC.
 
Thanks for the help. That pretty much clears it up. So you put the starnut in the fork (not the bars) and the other end of the bolt goes in the bar? Thanks!
 
Sorry about all the posts. I keep hitting quote instead of edit, sorry. But I guess I do have another question- I guess I don't get inverted compression as much as I thought. So there's one star nut. In the bars. Then the bolt is threaded throught the star nut. The bolt goes through the headset and through the bottom of the fork. Then going out the bottom of the fork is a washer keeping the bolt from going through. Is this right?

i think you have it backwards

the bolt goes up from the bottom of the fork where there is usually a washer type thing for the bolt head to rest against, it goes through the headtube and threads into the star nut in the bars

imo the rad compression is a lot easier considering standard star nuts are way easier to pick up at your lbs than oversized ones, also its only 2 bucks when you get rads bars with it
 
So the rad compression has the star nut in the fork? I thought the star nut was in the bars. Or is the RAD compression just about the same as inverted.

RAD compression has a star nut in the fork

a shim (cylinder thing that slides over the fork)

the shim goes over the fork

a headset topcap goes on top of the shim and a bolt threads through the starnut in the fork which pushes the shim onto the headset "compressing" it

then the bars which have to 1 3/8 with a larger ID go over the shim and fork with a normal clamp which is tightened then you're set
 
I guess i'll just give up on tring to picture the rad compressin. I can really only understand something if it's in a picture. I fail myself. Thanks for the description though. I get a very basic idea of the concept of the rad conpression. : )
