carbon fiber is stiff and has a good strength to weight ratio. but for somthing that takes hits such as a scooter it sucks. carbon fiber is like glass. glass doesnt bend it snaps. and it suddenly snaps without any warning. steel will last forever and is way more reliable and if it does crack it will show signs of stress before it happens. not all steel is the same though steel can be heat treated which will make it stiffer but if it it heat treated too far then its also more likely to crack without warning. ya carbon fiber is strong but it doesnt have the impact strength like steel to be used for scooters.
EXACTLY! ive seen little kids on minis have that happen. then they got ran over by 2 others haha. damn racers.

whatever, im sticking with its stronger than steel

im not talking about bmx, im talking about just the materials themselves.

this doesnt matter at all though, so lets just drop it

Ok if you wanna be so strict: carbon fiber is stronger than steel if we define 'strength' as the biggest pressure applied to the material when it doesnt break. but when it comes to impact resistance, steel wins the round, and that what matters when building a freestyle scooter. Correct?

well then how are the kids that said it sucks for scooters so stupid, even if carbon fiber is stronger under certain circumstances, it sucks for scooters or bmx or anything else that takes any impact..and in this case, thats what matters. i have no knowledge of either materials, but i know that the people were making a reasonable observation in saying carbon fiber doesnt work as good as steel for scooters since 9/10 people that get them snap them extremely fast. Not to mention, im pretty sure nobody makes buildings or other structures out of carbon fiber, they make them out of steel...im guessing because its more reliable

yeah i wasnt saying that at all, i definitely dont think carbon fiber is meant for scooters, or high impact sports at all. i was just talking about pure strength.

Still is not as strong as steel, no matter how you look at it. BMX is very similair to scooters. And are both used for the same purposes.

ok. heres the verdict. carbon is used instead of steel because its much lighter. when you think about it. the lighter you are, the faster you can be. i work at a race car shop. i know what makes a car lighter and faster. the purpose of a razor scooter is for transportation. its not a trick device. the intent of the carbon fiber has the same intentions as any other push scooter. which is transportation. okay so we go back to the topic of steel vs carbon fiber. many steel applications are used because its stronger. usually whenever carbon fiber is used, its applications are intended towards weight and speed.

If there was a 24k gold Razor scooter would people be like "that shit sucks... it's too heavy... the gold doesn't grind good."? hell no... they would be like gimme that shit sucka.
