scootgossip (SOCIAL THREAD POST HERE FOR FUN)

All I'm saying, effff scooter griptape unless you get a 9x33 piece for 6 dollars, and there's already perfected griptape in brands like MOB. I'm not overextending myself to solely support scooter companies thaaaat baddd. Hardly anyone gets bmx headsets any more, I think bmx grips and skate grip are ok...

i mean ive tried MOB and Jessup griptape and theyve lasted well enough for me, they had grip for ages and that went for 2 years+ for some decks. Now i ride the griptape that comes stock with VX4's, and its pretty damn good for stock. havent changed it since i got it and only a bit of the sides have worn out but barely noticeable, and its still grippy.

Every now and then when i do trick and land, either one or both of my feet slip off the deck from landing, happens to me on like every griptape though i have no idea why but its really annoying haha

for grips, ODI softies, done

Most retail scooter stores are using skate griptape. If they carry just normal colors its going to be from a skate distribution. Hella, Tilt, and any other scooter companys are most likely getting there griptapes through a skate brand. Either way, if you buy the griptape from a scooter store you are still giving back to the scooter community in some way but you arent getting away from skate grip. Same goes for grips, if you're buying from a scooter store, you are giving back in some type of way. Me personally before there was any scooter shops to walk into, I would just go to home depot and buy the grip tape rolls made for steps outside. The grip is super ruff and lasts forever. It also came in 4 and 5 inch wide rolls. Thats all I would probably still ride now if I still did.

Another thing is headsets. Basically every headset "made by" a scooter company is going to be an FSA headset with a design on the topcap. Its not necessarily a bad thing because the headsets are good. But if you want to get super tech about supporting scooter brands and not skate boarding, you always are going to be.

I'm so confused by your post. What do you mean they get them through skate companies? Where do you think the skate companies buy their product from? Scooter brands can circumvent wholesalers and go straight to manufacturers as well you know.

If you are going to get grips made in the USA, it basically has to be through ODI because they have a patent on the molding process in the USA.

If you are getting headsets made, and want them to be standard spec. It has to be FSA because they have a patent on 45/45 spec bearings.

No skate company manufactures their own grip other than Jessup. All other companies(skate or scooter) go through some tread manufacturer.

So really, by buying any grips you either support ODI, or a china company. If you ride an integrated headset you support FSA. If you put grip on your scooter you are supporting a tread manufacturer. So no, you do not have to go through a skate or bike company to get any of those things.
