Semi-Random Idea

We would need admin support for this to work.

Something similar to this has been brought up before I believe.

-I think we should have monthly contests for videos. Examples- Best street in a video, Best park in a video, Best overall video, Best editing.

- Based on those we would have 4 winners per month, and each of those winners could get like a few bucks discount on an SR store order, and their names/videos featured in the media section of the site for the month it pertains to. The ones in there are pretty old now.

- The way to vote on it is pretty negotiable, as is the rest of this. All the videos to be listed in 1 thread the last week of the month (in the videos section) and there is a poll that doesn't reveal the answers after you vote.
or
PM your votes for the 4 different categories to one of the admins, and they do the tallying up in the admin forums, so only they know the outcome before it happens.

-A new announcement on the main page with a link to the media section where the months videos could be found (youtube) would be cool.

Eh, thats all.

I think that would be a great idea matt. It would get people off their butts and start making good vids. And then at the end of the year we could all vote for the best of the years vids.

It's all about the almighty Andrew if he's gonna approve this idea to give a few bucks discount.

Recieving PM's is limited. That won't work unless Andrew would change the system again. E-mails would be fine.

This "video of the month" contest won't work if it has one-vote-per-month system:
let's say it's december, you're sending the video in, but only as a candidate of the next month. Because when you would vote for video #1 and somebody posts a video #2 in the contest later, it won't be able to vote for that video #2 which you actually think that it's better than video #1. One-vote-per-month system sucks.

It would work if you can add your video candidate whenever you wan't and there could be a one-vote-per-video system - vote for the video(s) you like. Then it's just the matter of time in how many days the people have seen the video and managed to vote for that. Not many people go on SR so often.

When this contest will actually start, there will be:
- a lot of dissapointment, nagging and bitching when your video fails just for one vote (or even by the idea that you knew that a lot of people had vote for your video and not for the other, if the voting results aren't casted in numbers).
- a lot of messages under video threads that contain "VOTE FOR MY VIDEO OR DIEEE!!11! <333"
- possible massive cheating for voting your friends to get them up so they could to the same to you even though the video sucks.
- situations where some persons will take advantage of it and start nagging at others when the thread gets hot and says: "i'm mister 'Best Park Video of August 2007', so stfu loser".

what i meant was that at the end of the month (the last 5-7 days) the admissions for that month are stopped, the videos from that month are found put in there... and those are the ones you can choose from. No voting all month long. And if you don't get on SR within that week to vote, your out of luck for voting.

Forgot to add:
(when this contest will actually start, there will be:)
- possible cheating of creating a lot of new accounts from the same person who enters the contest to vote for his/her video, even maybe just for a few bucks.

I doubt anyone would go to those weird extremes to win a video contest. I'm talking about having fun and having something new monthly, SR gets boring sometimes. This way it keeps people involved too trying to keep riding and getting better so their video might win some sort of award, even if it may be just a small "month-of-fame" in the media section or a few bucks towards the SR store. I also should've added so its more cost-efficient for Andrew, he can set a time limit by when the credit would need to be used by.. like a 2 week or 1 month time span. That way any unused credit just goes back to him and SR. I don't know. I think it would be fun and just to keep SR kind of fresh. If you really think there will be a bunch of problems and hassles with it don't bother.

Feel free to share all your ideas people, its completely open discussion. I'd especially like to hear andrew's opinion on this considering it is his site and would be money away from producing forks/compression systems and whatever else he had planned.

Also- if that ^^ right there seems like too big of a problem the only prize for winning could just be having your video up for everyone to see in the media section.

Mnyeah. Generally a good idea that could refresh SR. I'm just pointing out the possible results after having these. So i don't know if i should be positive or negative on this idea, but then again, it's not really my dilemma.

haha thanks bro. And Madis I see what your saying. And thanks for contributing. I assumed everyone would be like "good idea" or "bad idea" but not really contribute.

Yeah, I also think that something should be done to make things more interesting. We could have a little, "Clip of the Week" thing where a moderator looks at all the clips during a week and then chooses one and puts it up in the Media section. That could also prevent people from making new threads for their clips, which would be nice.

I got myself banned.
I would support it but we tried to have this east coast vs west coast video battle thing before, people couldn't even get footage together. It will end up like 5 people actually submitting material.

it would be good to have the vids sent to the admins before the end of the month, then release them on a certain day so then the vids are there for the same amount of time, therefore no one would have a big advantage
