why do companies do this

district was made to target the younger generation and now everyone and there mother rides one.. i honestly dont see the problem with companys like madd or envy even if they are just in it for the money, they make light cheapish products for younger kids and proto, tsi, phoenix, tilt, ect make products that set the standard for quality parts and will define our sport. just buy what you want to buy and go out and have fun riding it haha

Thats whats ruining the sport

why? like I said, the companies that make the best quality parts are the companies with good mature images, such as Proto, Tilt, TSI, etc. if you buy parts from companies with bad images such as Maddgear or Lucky, you're not only supporting companies that are hurting the sport, you're also sacrificing the quality of the parts you're riding.

I miss jamie and all the Ogs on lucky. I miss the penis decks. I miss the old wheels :_( I miss being able to wear my lucky beanie with pride....

dont support these shitty companies, simple as that. Most scooter riders need to get over sponsorships and try not to jump on anything they can get just to claim they have a sponsor.

i dont think that we should draw conclusions and say that we wont progress.
scootering is cool shit and im sure that people who dont think so will realize it eventually.
we just gotta keep a positive attitude, but i definitely see where you are coming from with the younger generation. we just gotta keep on rollin'

Back to the main question: I have heard somewhere that companies market to little kids because when kids grow up, they stay with companies and continue to support them out of pure nostalgia. Much like McDonalds and burger king.
You can't stop it, there are too many uninformed parents and little kids buying parts from district, lucky, razor, and madd gear because those are the first brands that pop up on a quick google search/ have the most impressive looking riders and videos.

about 85% of the kids that come into the freestyle depot store are just little kids with there parents. they dont care about the company unless its madd gear and they dont know whats good only whats a big name and what other kids ride. kids are more about the color of the part over how well its made or the company who made it. kids are the only reason why scooters are getting so big right now. it sucks but its the only thing keeping it alive right now

Yup. It's pretty sad that we don't have a real culture around us yet when looking at the number of people on scooters. So many children with ZERO interest in anything but being the best out of their friend group and having the wildest color schemes on their scooter.

I'm so on the fence about the industry side of scooters. Part of me wants it to crash to make a fresh start possible with only the people that stick around from passion but the other side is super grateful we have had the growth we've seen in the past four years... Maybe we can getting it to where we want it without a full on crash, that would be a dream come true!

lucky, madd gear, blunt, envy, fasen, grit, district. these companies need to burn.

If it weren't for Madd Gear the sport would be far behind. The original MGP one piece deck set new standards for deck design and manufacturing. It also bought a huge decrease in price because you could get the perfect deck for about $60. People in America were paying big dollars to have them shipped over to them. If the MGP deck hadn't of been originated we'd still be breaking ultra-pro decks and wondering when someone would come out with something new.

Their campaign is terrible, I'll agree with you. They focus on the kids as do many other companies but it's basic business to go where the crowd is. They can still care about the sport and progression no matter who they target their business at. Madd Gear had one of the sickest teams out and were shredding everything, they were sponsoring very talented riders and putting out a lot of footage to help the sport get noticed and pick up a fan base.

The first time I ever seen scooting on national TV? Madd Gear. They may have only been advertising but at the same time they were respecting the talented riders and moving us forward as a sport. Money is the fuel of every sport and we need to realize that companies aren't charities, they aren't 'meals on wheels', but they can still help us progress. That's how I see it any way.

It so happens that the so called unlegit, non-rider-owned companies make some of the most affordable parts and until some of the legit companies actually trying to push the sport make their stuff affordable, the non rider owned companies will still portray scootering as a kids toy because those are the companies that are leading the charge on terms of money and power in scootering.

working in the scooter industry and knowing what companies are doing and or saying behind the scenes and what goes down. its a total joke. i get bummed on scooters super easy just bc i know how much bullshit is going on. that is why there are only a few companies that i support.
