yes, but they're around 1000 bucks to buy a basic model, if you want to buy the really light/strong/whatever expensive bullshit you want model, that's gonna run you around 2 grand, if not more.. The ONLY plus to those are that you can take them to ski resorts, but you can also take GT's to ski resorts if you know how to pull strings..
edit: this vid has some people gting on a ski hill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JmJzRWIOIw

And, GT's only cost from $0 to max. about $300 to make, depending on how you get the parts for them. (hint: craigslist is excellent if none of your friends have old gt's/bikes lying around that they want to give to you for free or very small sums of money.)

Thats such a sick setup. I used to have like the exact one he had. My brother and I used to go halfway down a hill and pivot 180, then we were trying to slider out. Pretty funny because we had no clue what we were doing.

Those things look really fun, but you're just standing on the runner sorta things, right? Wouldn't that be slippery to be standing right on the tubing?

nah stomp pads from snowboards, or even grip tape helps

you stand on it.

And danny, they are extremely fun, and yes they're pretty easy too, yesterday was my first day on one and I can barspin flat and 180 and stuff. Too bad you guys don't have snow down in texas :(

edit: holy shit justin, that is way gnarlier than mine. I think I'm probably gonna re-bolt my gt further back and make a new seat, because it's way too long right now..

excuse me? austin gets half an inch a year on average. hahaha

half an inch hmmm, our past snowstorm over here we got about 25 and a half inches lol

As for the slipperyness when standing on it, snowboard stomp pads are the best option so far. You can also find a bike tire or something and cut it up and superglue/bolt it on to the gt. Personally I haven't done anything with my skis yet for grip because I haven't had any problems yet with my feet slipping off...

how do you make one? what parts do you need?
to make a gt with a welder, you need:
-welder
-hammer
-hacksaw
-sandpaper
-drill (with 5/16" bit)
-file/grinder
-paint
-bolt/threaded rod and a bunch of spacers (washers) for front ski (5/16" size), or you can use a pipe and weld it/bolt it into the bottom of the bmx fork
-1 or 2 locking nuts for bolt/threaded rod respectively, and 2 locking washers
-gt
-bmx bike/kids bike

to make it, you need to:
-hammer off all the stock headtube crap on the gt and take off the brakes
-cut bike frame so it fits on top of/in between gt frame
-sand off all the original paint near the area being welded
-weld it in place
-cut bmx fork so that there is like half an inch of space between the bottom of it and the ground.
-measure and drill holes in it for the front ski
-put on front ski using spacers and whatever and bolt it.
-paint the whole thing to prevent rusting

to make one with bolts, you need:
-1/4" bolts (the width of the gt frame with the bike frame wedged inside of it) (x2)
-1/4" washers (2-4 normal ones per bolt, and 2 locking ones per bolt)
-1/4" locking nut (x2)
-bolt/threaded rod and a bunch of spacers (washers) for front ski (5/16" size), or you can use a pipe and weld it/bolt it into the bottom of the bmx fork
-1 or 2 locking nuts for bolt/threaded rod respectively, and 2 locking washers
-hammer
-hacksaw
-drill (with 1/4" bit and 5/16" bit)
-file/grinder
-gt
-bmx bike/kids bike

to make it, you need to:
-hammer off all the stock headtube crap on the gt and take off the brakes
-cut bike frame so it fits in between gt frame
-drill holes for the bike frame in the gt frame (without the bike frame in place yet) and make sure the 1/4" bolts can go all the way through)
-put the bike frame in the gt
-drill through the bike frame using the holes in the gt frame as a guide
-bolt the bike frame to the gt frame
-cut bmx fork so that there is like half an inch of space between the bottom of it and the ground.
-measure and drill holes in it for the front ski
-put on front ski using spacers and whatever and bolt it.
-paint the whole thing to prevent rusting (optional, because if you bolt it, there's gonna be the original paint from the bike and gt still on it)

Refer to http://forum.freestylesnowracing.org/ for pics, details on how to do it, etc.

I might be missing a few things from this, but whatever. I'm extremely bored right now, so this wall of text is basically me trying to deal with my boredom right now..

someone should put scooter handlebars on one.
It's been done before, and it seems really stupid. a) it looks bad, and b) you still have to weld/bolt a bmx frame on there to get the headtube setup anyway, so you might as well stick with the bmx bars which look better and work better.

And for people looking to get gt's, you can probably find them at most stores like wal-mart or whatever you have in the US. The ones of the site that jordan posted are all bad for making gt's EXCEPT for the classic one (the yellow one). And you can also search craigslist in your area to see if anyone is selling a used one (cheapest way to get a gt pretty much...)

well they do have bmx style handlebars, and the frame is the same as on a normal gt, but it won't last as long as a custom made gt, and I don't know how well it works in terms of tricks (doesn't look too good). Plus, there's a shitload of plastic on there that shouldn't be there if you're serious about building a gt, and it's kinda expensive...

today, I stripped a 20 inch mountain bike frame down to the bare frame and forks, put bmx handlebars on it, and then mounted it to my snowskate. I found a little ski thing for the fork. it is sooooo cool. I cant wait to test it out. ill post pics when its done.

haha that sounds wicked sick man.

I just finished cutting down my gt's bars from 28 wides to 24 wides, so yeah... now the bars don't stick out like 10 feet on either side of the gt, and barspins are slightly easier now..
