and if you still think "the book" is right then you tell me, where did god come from? and where was he for the holocaust? the great depression? 9/11?????

judging by the way you posted it, you're making it seem like the holocaust wasn't as bad as 9/11... which is completely rediculous if that's what you were doing. 9/11 was p*ssy sh!t compared to the depression and the holocaust.
haha nah i know, i just posted in order i thought of stuff.

can you really slander us for trying to find those people? can you look down on us for walking around the world knocking on doors and getting 1000 slammed in our face for every 1 that is opened by the people that are ready to hear our message and want something more?

no, i won't slander you or look down on you. i will completely disagree with you though, and it does bother me that shit like that makes other organized religions look like assholes.

if people want to be "saved", then they can do it themselves. no religion has the right to force its beliefs down the throat of the common man. by knocking on my door and saying "do you want to be saved?", you are delivering a condescending message that is totally unwarranted. i am a good person, and i don't know some self-righteous prick telling me that i'm going to hell if i don't follow what he tells me is right.

every time a jehova's witness or mormon has knocked on my door babbling on about how i need jesus in my life, i've brought up the bible and shut them up to the point where they just say "thank you for your time, goodbye." i've also done it to "christian missionaries" who tried to convert me since i didn't admit i already was christian, and they made me disgraced of my religion.

i find the fact that people feel the need to tell me that i need to be "saved" disgusting.

k what you don't realize, because you live in a well civilized area where topics of religion and politics run rampant, is that some people can't go "be saved" by themselves! again, you're argument is solely based on you and your situation, when it is certainly not the situation of the rest of the world! my dad served his mission in taiwan, and he told me that when he found the right person, the person that had been waiting for him, they fell to their knees and wept tears of joy because they felt such an emptiness in their lives until that moment. so much joy has been brought to so many millions of people as a result of our missionary work. something that couldn't be done by themselves because they had no idea any such religion or anything like that even existed. often, people in taiwan would ask my dad how to pray, because they had no idea how to do it. and how does our missionary work make other religions, as you so eloquently put it "look like a--holes"? do you honestly think that we go knocking on doors and say "omg catholics are so gay, join our church!" we walk from door to door and tell people that we are from the LDS church and that we have a message. then we ask if they would like to hear our message. if they say no, we say thank you for your time and leave. last time I checked that's not "shoving our views down the throats of the common man". that's a simple conversation between people. learn the difference.

not once has any mormon missionary said "you're going to hell if you're not saved by our church" and if they did, then they had no idea what they're talking about because that's not what our church believes at all. you're lumping us in the category of jehovah's witnesses and other missionaries, when we are NOTHING ALIKE. your views on us are based on anger and ignorance, and it's sad that you have such a twisted perception on who we are and you turn around and tell everyone on SR and wherever else what you think mormons are and these yuppie kids that love you just eat it right up. maybe if you sat down with a mormon missionary and talked with him rather than trying to "shut him up with the bible" (which by the way, we whole-heartedly believe in as well, so I don't understand how that works. probably another jehovah's witness that you mistook for a mormon), you would have a better understanding of who we are and what we do, and you wouldn't be so intolerant.

we don't believe that we're trying to "save" you. we believe that any good person that has lived a good life will go to heaven. but we also believe that there is so much more to learn about the after life, and life here on earth, and we just want to share it with whoever is willing to listen. so how about you read all of the things I've written here, and read it with an open mind. maybe after you've read it all you will say "hm, maybe mormons aren't as bad as I thought". because I don't see how anything I've written above about us could be percieved as "bad" by anyone's standards. I'm not trying to convert you. I'm sure you lead a very happy life and you are just fine with what you believe. all I'm asking is that you broaden your views on my religion and maybe others, and cut this attitude of intolerance

The only person I have seen in this thread and all the others on this topic with any sense is Sean. Anyone who doubts the existence of a higher power and thinks this world and this universe just "happened" is an idiot.

Just because science can't prove the existence of God does not mean it can disprove it either. Yea, evolution is probably real. Yea, the big bang THEORY is probably real. Yea, most things that science discovers are probably real but if anyone can explain to me how science proving something in turn disproves the existence of a god I would love to hear it. The only thing I think when I hear of all these amazing scientific discoveries is that God really is amazing if he brought all this into existence with all its complexities.
yessir. its pretty amazing if you take the time to think about how lucky we really are.

one wrong thing with our solar system/galaxy/universe and we wouldnt exist.

omg yea. i was just talking about that today. its like a 1 in 9999999999999999999999999999999999999million billion trilion x 3789 1/2 chance. probally more. like 300 million sperm(i think) are made every second, then times that by how many secs. in your life, then x that by every living thing in your familly tree going back to single cell orgisims. then the chance of our planet and stuff happening the way it did.then for us to be inteligent, even worse odds. really bad odds.lol. if a bug got squashed like 300 million years ago you could not be here, weird.better chances of winning every lotto ever. thats why it pisses me of when ppl dont appreciate the process of life(talking about religous ppl)sorry.

THERE IS A GOD
The universe is pretty big
The axis of the earth means there is a summer and a winter, if that was different there would just be different seasons.

i do not believe in any religion and in my opinion there is no way that god or any other superhuman could ever exist. BUT i do think that religion gives the needed hope to many people.

For me i find it very easy to believe in he big bang and such. From the stuff i have learned in my science it just all makes sence to me.

although i would say Britain is less religous than the USA so that may have something to do with it...

1 degree of difference on the Earths axis wouldn't destroy all life, it wouldnt do much, some places will have a bit hotter summers and a bit colder winters, or the other way around

Im with Steve on this one, not particularly religious, i wouldnt believe stuff i dont know is true, the bible is pretty wack though(Meaning weird and completely fake sounding)

i really don't feel like answering all of that, so i'll try to sum this up. it's cool that you're not trying to "save people", but anyway that goes around trying to convert people does so with an attitude that their religion is correct and all others are wrong, which gives makes you a religious elitist before you even say anything, and that's totally fucked up.

and i find it hard to believe that there are people in taiwan waiting for you to come and save them with the bible. on the off chance that you are, i also don't believe you're helping people. if you teach people to pray, they're going to believe in the "almighty power of god." so when their crops are having a bad season and they starting praying under the assumption that god is going to solve their problems, what do they do when nothing happens? they lose their faith in this mystical being they just began believing in and revert to their primitive ways, solving nothing.

if people want to "find god" they can do it themselves.

how the crap is the bible fake sounding no one has yet to prove it wrong and there are many facts proving it right

god damn you're dumb. the bible isn't fact. it's a moral guide. not fact. yeah, people lived to be hundreds of years and god appeared to moses in a burning bush and every number in bible is 12 or 40 out of total coincidence.

history, you should check it out.

They've proved that things in the bible are wrong, eg. saying the world is 5000 to 7000 years old. I don't want to argue about this stuff, I have no way of knowing personally whether god is real, just don't present your beliefs as facts eg. "THERE IS A GOD"

and as far as the adam and eve thing. thats gross if you think about it. if they had a babie, then what. there would have to be inbreeding going on either way. and we'd all had 5 arm and noses growing from our bellys. also, it says(pretty sure) that there were white ppl then black ppl. thats wrong. and alot more.

inbreeding doesn't lead to genetic mutation. it's a myth.

hahhaha we had this descussion in RE today, i came up with my own theory:

Around 2000 years ago a group of good people made up a fictorial character called jesus and God and created a book that portayed messages to make people better people.

These stories were passed on form person to person, the stories getting more and more unbelievable.

They soon found that these stories had much money to make and spread the word taking donations everywhere.

So to sum up. Christianity was made up to make people better but then sort of started turning into a money fest.

I dont fully belive this but yeah...

no... not at all. you're teacher is wrong, if you really discussed that.

jesus is a historical figure. whether you believe he is the son of god or not is debatable, but the fact that he existed isnt, because, well, it's a fact.
