^^^hmm interesting stuff

also what people dont understand is that believing in god is not necessarily believing in the bible

the bible is an interpretation of the beliefs of normal people just like us and is most likely not 100% true. what also bothers me is how blindly people follow religion...like some people only claim to believe in god because they are afraid that if they dont they will "burn forever in hell" or something along the lines of punishment for not believing.

imo no religion has the right to say any other religion or lack of religion is wrong. believe if u want and dont if u dont want to because the truth is nobody will probably kno for sure what happened and whatever gets u through the day is whats right for u. NOBODY SHOULD BE THOUGHT LESS OF FOR BEING RELIGIOUS OR ATHEIST

ok im done

and if you still think "the book" is right then you tell me, where did god come from? and where was he for the holocaust? the great depression? 9/11?????

judging by the way you posted it, you're making it seem like the holocaust wasn't as bad as 9/11... which is completely rediculous if that's what you were doing. 9/11 was p*ssy sh!t compared to the depression and the holocaust.

there is proof jesus existed. he is a historical figure. no reputable historian will argue the fact that jesus didn't exist. it's fact.

people have free will for a reason, for them to make their own decisions, what does the holocaust have to do with god? for some lame bible quotations, when the jews asked jesus how he would lead them out of oppression, he responsed with something to the nature of "my kingdom is not of this land, it is of my fathers" meaning that it wasn't the place of god to fix the problems that occur due to the free will of people. and i'm starting to sound more religious than i am so i'll stop there.

and the real question about the holocaust is where was the rest of the world, not where was god. it was the public turning their back on genocide just because they didn't want to get involved, just like the whole world is turning their back to the genocide that is happening in darfur right now. off topic whatever suck my dick if you dont like it.

I am mormon. I am extremely religious. of course you cannot prove God exists or that Jesus was his son, but I believe that he was. I have faith in that. judge me and ridicule me all you want but nothing you can say about micro organisms and theories is ever gonna change the fact that I whole-heartedly believe in my religion. I have my reasons, I believe that I have seen many miracles in my life, things that could not have happened by chance. I pray at night for strength to overcome my weaknesses and for wisdom to overcome daily challenges and struggles. I feel that those prayers are answered in the way they are meant to be answered. who knows, maybe while I'm on my mission serving wherever I serve, I'll knock on one of your doors and teach you and your family about the gospel haha. it could change your life

i was ok with everything you said until that part. i hate that. so much. trying to convert people isn't a "mission", its being a fucking nuisance and making society look down on organized religions.

yeah, I kinda agree to that. no offence or anything chase, I mean it's kinda rooted in your religion that you have to do that, so whatever, but I just kinda get annoyed when jehovah's witnesses and whatnot go around public places, or door to door and try and convert you or whatever. I mean you guys do have the right to do that, it's just I don't like how many religions tend to look down upon other religions, and that it's their god-given right to go and "save" everyone within sight.

Makes no sense.
this proves there is such thing as GOD..

what do people think?
your statement makes no sense.
you think it makes no sense because you dont know why or how it happened.
no one knows everything. we only have enough intelligence and technology to know so much at any given time. whatever god you believe in is STUPID!!!!
everyone is always trying to be "politically correct" but thats bullshit. i really dont care if youre offended that i say its stupid. its stupid because there is scientific evidence that the earth was around for well over 50 billion years. animals evolved from single-celled organisms, not just appeared on earth, which took many millions of years not days. that alone proves the bible wrong.

the bible is a story about a man who no one even has proof existed. and dont even say the bible is proof because i once read this book about the toothfairy and a few years later learned the truth and its time you stop being so ignorant too. the bible wasnt even written for over a hundred years after jesus supposedly died. it was just a story passed down through generations by word of mouth, then finally written in a book in latin. later translated into other languages and translated again and again. and just like whisper down the lane there are many parts of the story that have been twisted and even lost. after all this how could any truth survive? again, another point that the bible is anything but fact. i believe that the bible and story of jesus was just made up because humans are naturally curious and scared of the unknown. so when these people two thousand years ago pondered how or why life began, where sicknesses come from, or why the sun goes up and down, they hypothesized about how this happened. and to them it seemed logical because there was no technology at the time to prove them wrong....were in the 21st century people! we have the technology to know what goes on in the world.

and if you still think "the book" is right then you tell me, where did god come from? and where was he for the holocaust? the great depression? 9/11?????

Just throwing this out there...dont forget, people lived to be alot older in bible times than they do in our generations. So surely if the bible was written 100 years after jesus death, there were still many witnesses alive that could recall everything. Therefore if anything in the bible was THAT inconsistant or false, these eye-witness accounts surely would have called it bluff. Theres no way that the bible would still be around if it wasnt accurate to everyone in its beggining days. Or thats the way i see it.

some people believe it is a nuisance. some people open their door and see two men in suits with a message, and they slam the door in their face. that is nothing we can help, and that will never change. but in the year 2007, 279,218 people did not find it a nuisance. 279,218 people lived their day to day lives wondering if there was something more to life than what they had. 279,218 people had a knock at their door by two missionaries with a message, and changed their lives forever. 279,218 people are somewhat happier now because they believe in something. can you really slander us for trying to find those people? can you look down on us for walking around the world knocking on doors and getting 1000 slammed in our face for every 1 that is opened by the people that are ready to hear our message and want something more? of course it is perfectly fine for you to find us missionaries to be a nuisance, but don't get upset at us when we keep trying to find the people that think the opposite.

no, i won't slander you or look down on you. i will completely disagree with you though, and it does bother me that shit like that makes other organized religions look like assholes.

if people want to be "saved", then they can do it themselves. no religion has the right to force its beliefs down the throat of the common man. by knocking on my door and saying "do you want to be saved?", you are delivering a condescending message that is totally unwarranted. i am a good person, and i don't know some self-righteous prick telling me that i'm going to hell if i don't follow what he tells me is right.

every time a jehova's witness or mormon has knocked on my door babbling on about how i need jesus in my life, i've brought up the bible and shut them up to the point where they just say "thank you for your time, goodbye." i've also done it to "christian missionaries" who tried to convert me since i didn't admit i already was christian, and they made me disgraced of my religion.

i find the fact that people feel the need to tell me that i need to be "saved" disgusting.

Highly agreed. My good buddy is that way. Brings up christianity with everything and it turns off countless possible people to convert. Ive never believe forcing it is the right way, but once someone brings it up i try to give them my two cents. If anything, going door to door HURTS your cause. Leave it for the people to find their own religion themselves.

double post because i can!!

to add to what dan was saying, jesus being born on the 25th and the whole crucification thing. its all related to the SUN not the SON.

see, on the 25th of december was the winter solstice (the calendars werent as accurate as they are today), when the sun starts to move back to the northern hemisphere (jesus is born!). the three days jesus is dead represent the pause in the suns movement (the sun stays north for three days before heading back south for the summer solstice). almost all religious characters follow the same timeline.
about jesus being born on the 25th...he wasn't. like i think sean? said, it was written to be the 25th because they were trying to convert pagans, and needed a way for them to relate to christianity. which basically explains all of those coinkydinks.

also, again, like sean said, Jesus has been proven to have existed. and all those single celled organisms, "evolving" into today's animals definitely does not prove the bible "wrong". evolution is a theory. meaning it HAS NOT been proved. and theres some holes in it, at least to me. i was taught that, according to evolution, cows evolved from whales. theres some other odd transformations, i'd have to get ahold of that textbook to find some more examples.

carbon dating, one of the most widely used methods to date artifacts, bones, etc., has also been proved to have dated objects wrong, by millions of years. this also draws the theory that the world is billions of years old into question.

sorry if something i said is incorrect, or completely off-base. i'm just repeating what i heard from when Richard Hanson (i think thats his name) came to my moms church, for a weeklong seminar/lecture type dealy like 3 years ago haha.

evolution has been proven. for along time now....in a hundred years or so we'll know enough where there wont be any religions anyway, its just a phase.so who cares. if you lived in 200 a.d. and you saw stars and the moon and stuff what would you think they were. thats how it all started with the god thing.then evolved into what it is now. god wasnt viewed the same then as it is now. the stars were the gods. and now that we know what stars are, something else had to replace god. they were smart enough to know something was there but didnt know what it was. we do know that know, its space.and as far as hell, they probally saw a vocano or something(seriously, wouldnt doubt it). if they knew then what we know now this discusion wouldnt be taking place. your an idiot to think theres a god. the universe didnt always exist(BEEN PROVEN)which proves god doesnt exist(scince he aparently always existed) and thats just one thing that proves it. if we dont have the technoligy to prove he exists now, then how did they then. if someone today said he was the son of god they'd be institutionallized. im not saying you cant believe in god, but i feel bad for ppl that go their whole lives believing something that not there. that my view, please dont take offence.
