Yea but for a shit ton of money, you would be bettter off spending $1200 on a DVX if your thinking about going that far into filming.

Your opinion is fucking horrible. 3ccd over HD all day.

If your serious about filming and your going to be making DVDs, SD is the way to go. Your DVD will sell so much more if its in SD. Most people still don't have HDTVs.

How is HD always better than SD? Because the picture is bigger? Like what are you tryin to get at? Bigger isn't always better. Enjoy your CMOS rolling shutter. I can deal with my bleeding red 3CCD sensors, its avoidable.

Yeah, HD is nice and all... but half of the kids arguing that it is better are filming and putting their fuckin videos on YOUTUBE. Are you fucking kidding me? You just killed your HD quality right there. If your going to be compressing your HD, what the fuck is the point of having it in the first place.

All of the kids in my school refuse to shoot in SD since there is HD cameras available for rent... i always ask them why, they say because it looks better. I ask them what they are going to do with their video, they answer put it on youtube... why not save your self a shit load of hard drive space, be able to edit faster, receive better colors, not have to worry about shitty encoded video, and just shoot SD picture than? These kids seriously think they present a portfolio to a school or at a job interview on fucking youtube...

so what you are saying is, that sd is better than hd.

do you not get that pretty much everything on tv is shot in hd, but you can (get this) still watch it on an sd tv? hdtv is growing sooooooooooooooooooooo much its not even funny. i read somewhere that from 08 to 09 it doubled. im obviously not putting the shit i film at ceremonies and events on fucking youtube. really now? my cmos rolling shutter is like what, not even noticeable? honestly arguing that hd is worse than sd is like saying a normal camaro is better than an ss. thats fucking retarded.
and the whole dvd thing, i dont put shit on dvd. i either burn it on blue ray or put it on an sdhc card.
and what about the hvx200? 3ccd and hd. are you going to say you would rather get a vx21 because its sd? fuck saying sd is better than hd is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.

you sir, need to come over here to 2010. things are changing.

I'm not saying its better, but from a professional point of view, where money matters, SD DVD is the way to go. How many people have SD TVs and DVD players vs HDTVs and bluray players? I don't fuck around with youtube except for little shit. Its not professional. If I'm dropping money on equipment, I want to sell my product at top quality and I want to get the most sales possible form it. If you release something on DVD, EVERYONE can buy it, everyone has a DVD player. If you release to HD bluray audience only, your selling your shit to a fraction of people. Yeah a lot of people have HDTVs, but i doubt most of those people have blu ray players. If anything they have a upscaling DVD player, tv or receiver. Look at this chart compaing bluray vs DVD sales

n3u81t.jpg

See what I mean? Imagine the cost produce a bluray video... my setup would be HVX, lens, P2 cards, external drive, computer able to edit HD smoothly, bluray burner, bluray roms... fuck that prob like 10gs right there. I can purchase a whole SD rig for under $5,000.

If your putting your lil videos on youtube and shit than whatever. If im doing a shoot on a budget, I want to make that budget back +profit.

Camaro SS vs reg Camaro... gas mileage, don't even try to bring something from a different category to compare SD vs HD, it doesn't work.

but you see how the dvd line is going down and blue ray is going up? i know that when i go to film school and start doing bigger more legit jobs, im ready. hd is obviously going to be bigger than sd very soon. for extreme sports sure go ahead and buy a cheep sd cam. but if you want to go anywhere with filming you have to keep up. and you can put hd video on dvd. it wont be hd but you can still do it. might as well save up/ buy an hd camcorder before everything goes completely hd. and i know the hv isnt going to get me very far, but its going to get me far enough that i can buy a better camcorder (fx1, hvx200, fx7 something along those lines.). you can bet it will be hd too because there is no point in buying sd anymore. if you already have an sd camcorder as good as the 100b then push every last drop out of it, but sd is dying and in another 3 years (imo) nothing aside from skate videos is going to be in sd.

Why are you arguing with Brian :p he's the video man.
I'm not just jumping on the hate liltony bandwagon, I've never had a problem with you in the past or anything, but you aren't even discussing this or being open minded to different views, you're just shoving your opinion forward and acting like a dick...

im not trying to act like a dick or anything. im just trying to say sd isnt really going to cut it in the near future, and going hd is deff going to help you out in a career in filming.

What the fuck are you looking at? The DVD line is still goin up.

Put HD video on DVD... and what pass it through a composite video cable? LOL.

Why keep up with the 'times' and buy a HD camera now when they are going to be thousands of dollars cheaper in a few year. SD isn't going anywhere. Its perfect. Do you know what film is? Did you see that go anywhere yet? Film is still preferred over digital, HD will never touch film. Digital video couldn't kill film, HD isn't going to kill standard, at least not for another 15-20 years.

I'd rather watch something shot on 16mm than HD, can't touch that picture.

You don't need a camera in film school. You pay tuition, get education and rent equipment.

SD won't die even if TV-broadcasting standards are switched to DVB-T/ATSC/DMB in ALL countries, because they will still continue broadcasting SD, only more in 16:9 and less in 4:3. Plus, majority of people still have SD TVs or HD-Ready TV's (they can accept 3+2 component HD cables, but they are NOT full-HD), and people won't get new TVs unless they break or move out. If it ain't broken, don't fix, ya know? As for the best cost-effectiveness, i'm with brian, if you plan on producing a skatemovie on a blueray (lets say within the next 6-10 years), then you're more likely to go bankrupt with the project. Somebody has to come up with cheap blueray roms, burners and inexpensive raw discs first, otherwise people will rather go piracy instead of buying a 60-dollar skatemovie on a blueray disc.

Don't just jump into the graze. Some people in 2007 thought that HD would "take over the world" by 2010. Guess what, it's 2010, SD still rocks the building, hahah.

Considering this thread, what Panasonic 3chip gs series camera is comparable to an hv30?I have an hv30 now and I realized that a 3chip camera would have been better for me. I have to shoot in sd with my hv until I get a laptop and until then I figured I'd be better off with a 3chip cam.

Edit: GS320?

Way to compare colors in 2 totally different seasons. GS footage looks better anyways. Why spend more on a HV30 instead of just grabbing the GS for cheaper?

hv30. and the gs footy doesnt look better at all.

2 different seasons and the hv30 still looks better.

i got my hv30 for 430 bucks, the lowest ive seen a gs500 for is 500.
HV30 looks better? What the fuck are you looking at. Theres no color in the HV30 footage. The GS shit is a bit warm but can be toned down.

i could make the color look like the gs if i white balance off something with a blue tint too. and you can always color correct. and since when is color the most important thing?
