I can understand if you put your HD material on blueray for your OWN use, but if lets say if you put something into production and put yourself into a situation where you'd take advantage of your unused brain, you would see that most of the target audience uses DVD and only a fraction of them has BD/HD-DVD/VCDHD/HVD/CBHD/etc devices, you would rather burn copies on DVD-s because 85% of the US market uses standard definition TV's or enhanced definition devices which still displays only 480 rows (or 576 rows in europe). Only a fraction of the rest of the "15%" have have blueray or HD-DVD devices aswell next to their HDTV device.

You are missing the topic. 3CCD SD still pwns 1-chip HD,
you can't compare 3CCD to a 1-chip, no matter how good
are their resolution abilities.

It's better for what I need it for. I can't edit HD footage until I get a new computer, which won't be for a LONG time.

Is trading my hv30 for a gs500 a good deal?

if you already have an hv30 why not just film sd and whitebalance off something with a blue tint? it will look the same as a gs. maybe abit different.
