I gave up on Audacity. Apparently its a lot harder to get a successful bend with it on a Mac. What these are is a .jpeg converted to a .bmp, then open the .bmp in TextEdit/WordPad, change random strings (ie search "FG" and replace all with #∆), save the .bmp, and then convert it back to a .jpeg.

im using auducity on a mac(10.4.11 if that means anything) and I have a really low success rate. Most of them won't open because it says the file is corrupt, or i just get a black box instead of my image. :(

there is a certain section you dont want to edit

Cory's right, you need to exclude the first ~5 seconds of the sonarized image when adding effects. That's the header. If you edit the header, you break the file.

Finally got my polar bear glitch to work.

Dude. The first polar bear and the mountain scene are so sick.

Here's my first slightly good attempt with Notepad .bmp editing. I'm using Audacity some more too so I can figure it out.
