It's how you mess them up with a certain effect in mind. It also redefines what you can classify as an image on computers and makes you realize that an image on a computer is merely a collection of characters that determine what the image looks like. Meaning that you can literally realize any possible image with this stuff.

To put it in a nutshell, you basically take an uncompressed photo file (.bmp .tif .raw) and import it into either a text editor (notepad++, wordpad, etc.) or Audacity which is a sound editor. Then you mess with code or sound effects or whatever your little heart desires then you export it back out as raw data which you can change back into a .bmp or similar type of file. The code that makes the image what it is supposed to be is all messed up and it changes the image creating what you see.

everyone has their opinions. i think this stuff is creative and very interesting.
i once went to an art museum and there was a canvas there that was entirely painted solid green. it was just a green piece of cloth and people called it art. js.

When you import it, remember whether or not you imported it with U-LAW or A-LAW and then export it with the same thing. Also, you can add .bmp or the appropriate file extension on to the name when you export it too.
