How do you like your forums?

If people didn't derail threads this forum would be more successful than bill gates. And I kind of like the idea Travis said about only having real riders left. I've looked at threads from 3,4,5 years ago and there was maybe one hate post. Now.... Idk. But it's great what you're doing Brock, it's time for alittle bit of a crackdown.

I like my forums with more maturity than my 2nd grade class. Unfortunately SR does not fit that description at all.

In order of paragraphs:

1. Thought you were calling me out.

2. Never mind, that pretty much describes me perfectly.

3. I don't know about you, but I don't want this sport to be the next rollerblading. It's getting big fast, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The days of having to watch your ass when you went to a skate park, hoping that somebody didn't start shit and kick you out is past us. Also, I like having legit parts. I'll always be in it for the riding, regardless of how big the sport gets. Don't worry about what other people are doing. If you can do that, the sport will never change.

4. Seriously you could put any forum name in that sentence and it will still be valid. The only reason SR is worse is because the age demographic on this site is lower than most. But if you've ever even browsed a skating forum, BMX forum, etc, this place looks like an oasis compared to those unintelligible fuckers.

I wasn't referring to you at all, sure you can be a silly troll and can get on my nerves sometimes but you're not a problem.

I remember The Come Up forums and how fucked they were and I was worried the same thing would happen here... which it kinda did. HOWEVER SkatePercepton is still readable and people get on fine with very few shitrats roaming around so I know there is hope.

It's just like Tom said, the maturity level here is embarrassing more than anything.

and Rob, yes you do a lot behind the scenes and 95% of the site don't get to see that but your posting and presence is what makes me want to shake a baby. You shouldn't be so afraid to ban people and explain to them why they got a ban and let them back after a week, if they are still being an arsehole than give 'em more /permaban. You're giving people way too many chances and it changes the whole vibe of the forum to that wild west I was talking about.

We have a rather large disparity in the amount of bans that should be handed out versus the amount that are. There have been occasions where I rightfully should have been banned, but I didn't even get a warning. Also, occasionally there are bans handed out for not much reason, which sharply contrasts with the bans that should be handed out, but weren't. (coughaceofspadestomkcough)

>says i don't care
>me and kieran banned over 400 spam accounts in one go
>hands out many infractions but tries not to ban people unless they do seriously bad things
>tries to keep the forum more light hearted instead of a strict regime of mods against members
>no one cares anyway

This, people seem to consider Rob and I as a joke.

Because you are when speaking of actual forum mods.

You obviously are good at what you do already but I really think you guys need to start enforcing just a few rules that this forum was started upon and ban people when they deserve it.

What kind of rules should we be enforcing more then?
Suggestions are definitely welcome

I don't know how the other mods do things, but I punish people how Buff has told us to. 3 Infractions before a ban unless it is serious, and most people get their shit together after the first infraction, so there is rarely anyone for me to ban.

There's only two rules that even matter at all in terms of improving the board, in my opinion, Rob.

1. Respect EVERYONE.

5. Do not make stupid posts or spam existing posts. (Trolling ffs)

Some members seem to have have immunity no matter how sever the stupidity or amount of disrespect they might bring. SR can still be fun without the confrontational vibe that a lot of kids bring with them when they come online and thats all i'm up against.

And I feel for you guys, seriously. You didn't become a mod to babysit and I understand that but like it or not this is the face of our english speaking community and it's getting to the point where it's not a great place for new comers.

I love the silliness that has ensued over the past year or so, but I also loved it when the POTW and COTW were updated constantly and when it was a little more serious. I think we should have sections for seriousness and sections for silliness. There's a little too much overflow around here in those regards but I'm not complaining.

I agree with travis, however I find that having rob, kieran and all the other mods does help. I know of people, including myself, who have done things wrong (either inadvertently or on purpose) to be corrected by the mods and never to do it again. I respect that their job is a hard one, and I try to co operate with them because of that.
There should be specific places to post stupid things, ie the 'post random stuff' thread; and as for rob posting stupid stuff, it's no worse than most other people.

i really like the forums how they are but one thing that needs to change is people need to stop being such assholes to each other and need to start getting along with each other it gets really annoying to look through a thread and see it get derailed because people start talking shit to each other.

I don't know about that. When I was a newcomer, the first thing I did was read the rules, and then I followed them. I was careful to not make any threads, because I frankly had no clue what I was doing. I didn't bump unecessary threads for a larger timespan of two days, and I didn't do anything in regards to breaking rules. I think the main reason why "newcomers" get such a hard time is because they're either twelve years old, and have no clue how forums work, or they're just stupid and can't follow the rules. However, there are plenty of newcomers on sr who know what they're doing.
