People grow up and in the process people change. That is all there is too it. People change the most from 20-25 years old and none of you practically are there yet. Wait until life hits you and you will see it's not just that easy. I'm not saying he won't still find time to ride but without making a living off it he cannot afford to ride as much as he used to ever again.
I will get back to that quote in a minute, just remember it.

Twan loves riding and riding alone probably more than anyone I have ever met. He has done more to organize and promote ride days and events than anyone else because he wants to see the sport grow. If some random guy walks up to you at a park trying to rally a bunch of people together for an event no one is going to show up but if the person rallying the event has built a reputation on their name and their image that people recognize and relate too then a lot more people will be willing to show up. Unlike most of you here Twan realizes that to effectively promote the sport your image is everything. You HAVE to market yourself especially if you have sponsors depending on you to promote their product. Sponsorship is a job not just for fun and Twan knows how to do work. I also don't think anyone understand how much or how hard Twan rides. Without his sponsors he simply could not ride as much as he does because he would be broke buying new parts every week. I give Twan whatever he needs whenever he needs it and the same goes for all my riders and in return I ask that they promote themselves, my company and the sport.

For those of you who think Twan's "reasons" for riding are strange or twisted, one of the following and/or multiple criteria probably applies to you: you live at home with your parents, you don't work and/or have never worked, you have never had a sponsor REALLY depending on you for promotion, you yourself have a strange and twisted view of how the adult world works because you have probably never truly been part of it.

Now I would like for everyone to glance back up to the quote I posted regarding Matt Andrus and read it again and really try your hardest to understand it. If you still don't get it I will summarize it for you: WHEN YOU GROW UP YOU CAN'T RIDE AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO UNLESS YOU HAVE SPONSORS OR SOME KIND OF INCOME. Does that mean Twan should sacrifice what he enjoys doing most in life, riding scooters, just for fear of being accused as a sell out by people who don't even understand his situation? Twan is 20 years old, living on his own, working to pay his bills, is over 6 feet tall, 180lbs. and crushes scooters on a regular basis not to mention he rides 7 days a week which is 6 days a week more than most of you yet you want him to what? Stop promoting himself so his sponsors drop him and he loses free parts and has to cut back on riding which would only result in him losing his talent and becoming another generic rider who does not push, progress or promote the sport? All I have to say is: grow up. 99% of you don't and can't understand where Twan is at in life nor will you ever unless you try to pursue a career in riding past your early twenties. Also, Twan is a competitive person? SO WHAT! Competitive people are driven and strive to succeed and do their best at whatever they do and you are acting like this is a bad thing??? The only reason you think it is a bad thing is because it makes other people who are less driven look bad.

The reason he promotes himself and the reason he rides a scooter are two completely different things which all of you are having a very tough time differentiating between. If you don't like how Twan promotes himself then you better hate me because I am probably the biggest sell out there is and I DON'T CARE. I am 22 years old living in the REAL world. A world that says "you have bills and responsibilities and if you aren't making money then you can't do it (as much as you'd like)". I turned SR into a business because I don't want to stop riding and the only way a business succeeds is by making money and the only way it makes money is by promoting itself and the only way it promotes itself (in regards to the extreme sports industry) is by sponsoring riders who intern promote themselves, their sponsors and their sport. The bigger the sport gets, the more people it will be able to support which means more people will be able to live the dream of riding for as long as they are physically capable.

I am not going to apologize for anything I have done or plan to do because I have had a plan and a vision for this sport since the day I started riding and I am using SR as a platform to carry out this dream. Twan has no reason to apologize to anyone either. He has been instrumental in promoting and progressing this sport and no one can argue that. If you have a personal beef then take it elsewhere and stop crying.

If anyone is seriously questioning Twan's dedication to this sport I will tell you personally that you are wrong.

I have driven and enjoy doing so, but ive been too busy and have no way to get money to pay for gas/insurance due to my education and team interests.

I have been going to college since i was 16, and am now 19.
mainly working on my welding and graphic arts degrees to help out with my team/friends.
I have 2 welding certs and a few credits away from an aa degree to show for it.
When I was 17 I got my license, graduated highschool, started SR, moved out, got my first of many jobs and started community college fulltime. My list from 17-22 would overwhelm you.

My little brother just turned 17 last month and he already has his divers license AND motorcycle license and has been working part time at Subway since he was 15 to pay for everything he does while he was in an accelerated homeschooling program which he is now only a few credits away from graduating a year early, next month, so he can move out and get a new job at Big Bear mountain this winter to pursue his dream of becoming a pro snowboarder then on his off season he will be at the community college.

I think you get the idea. "Excuses are like a--holes. Everyone's got one."

P.S. - I am not trying to get involved in this quarrel. I just felt it necessary to state a few facts.

wow^^
everything he said was completely true
all you kids dont understand twan and wont until your out of school
i myself am kind of like twan
i always wanted a sponsor and never really got one
now that im out of high school my parent basically said
we are not paying for you anymore
we are not buying you more scooter parts so you can go break more bones
so now im stuck working full time and going to college
i have hardly any time to ride at all + the fact that i have basically no scooter parts at all
the only things im riding on now are the parts that john radtke was generous enough to give to me
ive been riding less and less every week
so basically unless you have a good sponsor or have a lot of money in the bank you are not going to be scootering once you hit 20

well gee andrew, im sorry i didnt grow up the way you did man, we got on the same team/company and we both know how that works right?

Im not into caring about myself as much as i am into caring for friends, thats my outlook on life.

I can ride my scooter untill i am physically unable, its that important to me, nbot just some way to get fame and income.
I can do without a car to help out my friends for a few years.
i can do without having a girlfriend to show everyone how cool i am, and god knows i cant support one now anyways with my interests in scootering as they are.

My views on riding are not about getting free shit and looking cool, i am in it for the enjoyment of riding and friends.

Yes, i do agree that getting parts/scooters is something helpfull, but you shouldnt suck dick for them, you will be approached when you are ready and shouldnt just be working towards getting them

In other words, if it helps you, and you can go out and ride and give something back to other people then im all for it, that is not selling out. But if you only ride to look cool and get to be the best you dont belong on a scooter.

Thats how i feel andrew.
honestly i respect that you made this community as it has helped countless riders and done so much, but theres some obvious dissagreements on riding purposes.

its nothing to get riled up over and start comparing your life to someone elses my friend.

On another note, i dont want anyone to hate anybody, and i didnt even want this to turn into a "pick me or him as a friend" thread.

I wanted to hopefully show some people that riding shouldnt just be about fame and sponsorships, its about what it was like when you started riding and had fun with your friends.

I only dissagree with their views on riding, i dont hate anyone, unless they give me, my friends or my team shit.

To tanner, i'll be 20 in a few months man, im still riding and i fucking enjoy the hell out of it, scooters are cheap as dirt and if you divide your time wisly you can have time for alot of things.

I know you have alot of stuff to do, but i try to help you out when i can because i want you to keep riding for the enjoyment.

I still agree with everything John is saying. Logan also knows whats up.

People keep trying to make "Riding Your Scooter" into some big thing that its not. Andrew, by now everyone understands your thoughts on growing up, and the real world..You dont need to rub it in peoples faces that you are independant, youve done such and such and so on. Dont sit here and basically scare these KIDS on SR into thinking that once they hit a certain age..they just can NOT pick up their scooter and go ride it like they used to, unless they got a job that will help them pay for another scooter if they should break theres. Its common sense, people do grow up, and get jobs and move out, and go to college. But that in no way means that riding your scooter all of a sudden becomes some next to impossible thing to do, if you dont got a steady income. Not everybody absolutley NEEDS to spend 300+ dollars on a scooter to ride.

To be honest, with me..If i know for a fact that someone is riding for the purpose of trying to be popular, and get sponsorships, and be well known. Your going to lose respect from me. Its the way i am, and its how I feel. to ME thats not what riding is about. If thats what its about for you. Congrats.

John, You know i have you back no matter the fuck what even if i think you're wrong.. Which i don't.

Ride for the fun of it.
Not for a sponsor or too impress anyone.
That just makes you some cocky little kid with an ego the size of my own swelling prostate.

Andrew, How can you bash ANYONE who lives at home with thier parents? YOU STILL LIVE WITH MOMMY AND DADDY!

Twan, can't say i like ya can't say i don't... wait.. yes i can.

Steven_T.. all i have to say is.. <3 =]

Andrew.. not trying to get involved?
What the fuck do you call the novel you posted?

Ride to have fun. Not to get paid for it. Then you'd be like Rick Thorne(BMX rider who rides for money and that it and openly admits it) did i mention that Rick Thorne likes dick?

I don't want to be one to talk shit.. But hey Do i care? Not so much.

Twan..
You say you ride for fame fortune and all that jazz...
WHAT FUCKING FAME AND FORTUNE?? YOU LIVE WITH SOME KID IN AZ CAUSE YOU GOT KICKED OUT OF YOUR PARENTS HOUSE..
AS FOR FAME.. WHAT FAME?? SO WHAT A FEW PEOPLE KNOW WHO YOU ARE ON A WEBSITE.

Seriously.. get over yourself man.

As greg said.. Just my two cents.. well that was my buck fifty.
